I've had a lot of medical people advise me to walk and/or swim to help with my asthma. For one thing, they don't like me being overweight and also think that the air outside is usually better than the air inside. At least it's not full of dust mites!
I'm wondering is anybody else has been advised by doctors to exercise and how they feel about the whole thing.
Thanks
I've been told to walk daily and eat less to lose weight. BUT nothing dries out my lungs as much as walking or running for some reason. When I was young, it didn't seen to but as I got older and my allergens increased tremendously, my lungs seem to have taken the abuse.
But if I could do it, I would in a heartbeat. I happen to luv exercise. Still play tennis but not enough to make a difference.

I was told by my doctor to excersise however it makes it worse sometimes because I get an attack sometimes when just walking up the stairs and IM not on any medication right now so I gave up on that but when I was told to excersise to help with my depression I dont know what to do now.
Hi Joan, I use my inhalers before walking & take water with me. I also pace myself in speed & distance. Swimming is the ultimate. Relaxing, refreshing, great for the joints & your lungs won't dry out. Again pace yourself. Takecare & all the best. Hope this helps. later....
I happen to like exercise. But my lungs get so dried out. And I've tried everything. It makes me double up. I can only do a small amount of exercise, unfortunately. Even if I wear a face mask when I'm walking, my lungs dry out terribly. And when I'm done, I fall asleep instantly from shear exhaustion.
Hi everybody...I do try to exercise and it makes me feel better. I am overweight and have a lot of arthritis and it seems to help my joints from becoming so stiff. I also swim and we have a new pool in the high school five minutes from my house. So it's a blessing. I used to drive 45 minutes to get to the pool and 45 minutes to get home and that was a hassle. I really appreciate have something close by.
I just walk and swim and that's it. I go slow and bring cough drops for when my throat gets dry when walking. Where I walk is absolutely beautiful. It is called Henry Hudson Park and it's right next to the Hudson River and has a pretty wooded section. I've seen bunnies, turkeys and deer roaming around. If it's real cold I go to the mall to walk. That's not as pretty but it is an alternative in the real cold and hot weather.

my docter has told me to exercise and i try to but i need to have my inhaler with me because i am constantly coughing and weezing. Although you may have trouble exercising ask your doctor what you can do to help releive your symptoms.
