My Doctor has recommend that I start taking Xolair for allergies/asthma . Has anyone used this, or know of anyone that has used and what has been their experience.
I've never heard of this until now. From what I gather, this med seems to be a pretty good one for allergic asthma. Is this a shot you have to have frequently?
Yes, You do give yourself injections, either on a daily or weekly cycle. From what i understand, its for people with extreme allergies which trigger asthma attacks, was curious if anyone else had used it , thanks
Hi I know your message was from April but I was wondering if you tried the Xolair. I have been reading up on it all night and I am nervous yet curious. If you tried it does it work for you? Your Side effects? Thanks for any info...
my daughter used xolair for a year. she got 3 shots every two weeks. We started in March 2005 and quit Mid May 06. She had no sinus infections for that time period. She has asthma, severe eczema and a blood IgE of 1700. She felt wonderful the day after the shots. He skin peeled the whole year she took the shots about 1 week after the shots she would peel all over(Dr wouldn't think much of me saying that but she did! Her skin was softer than ever)...I think her skin was trying to fix itself and worked overtime. Her asthma kicked in, in May 2006 after going for over a year with no real attacks. Meds for asthma were reduced during that time. She would have to miss a 1/2 day of school every two weeks to get the shots and I would have to miss work. Her new allergist didn't think much of us being on it and wanted her off...said her IgE was too high for it to help her. I might would have put up a fight to keep her on it but she is starting high school this fall and I really don't want to see her missing so much school and we just didn't see the benefits for her....we may be sorry we stopped. She has had a rough summer allergy wise.
If your insurance pays for it I'd surely try it. We only had to pay a small copay for a 3 month supply and then a copay when she got the shot.
Thank you for your response. I was diagnosed with allergic bronichial pulminary aspergillius last Oct when everone thought I had pneumonia for the 100th time.I have had chronic asthma my entire life. My blood IgE levels at an average even when I am feeling great is at 3000. When I have a flare up or any lung issues it goes up even higher!!! I am currently under control now with you guessed it the famous Prednisone and many other meds.... so we are trying this to try to take me off the prednisone and lower the doses of others.... I am not confident it's gonna work with my condition. It might help my normal asthma issue.
I too am also bummed about how much time it is going to take to do the shots etc. Atleast I have a very very understanding boss (and a laptop.....)
