If I dont eat regularly (every 3-5 hours) I feel wired like I am on 8 cups of expresso, I can't think straight and after I have a good meal it takes me about an hour to settle down. I am 37 and my uncle and aunt have diabetes. Is this a symptom of Diabetes? or any other disorder/condition?
Thanks in advance
Low blood sugar can cause weird feelings. You may want to discuss this with your doctor at your next physical.

Hi there,
You may try checking your blood glucose when you experience these feelings if you have a glucometer at hand.If it is below 50 mgs%it is hypoglcemia! Then have one of these "quick fix" foods right away to raise your blood glucose:
2 or 3 glucose tablets
1/2 cup (4 ounces) of any fruit juice
1/2 cup (4 ounces) of a regular (not diet) soft drink
1 cup (8 ounces) of milk
5 or 6 pieces of hard candy
1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar or honey
After 15 minutes, check your blood glucose again to make sure that it is no longer too low. If it is still too low, have another serving. Repeat these steps until your blood glucose is at least 70.
There are many causes of hypoglycemia or "low blood glucose"which needs a thorough work-up as suggested by Jeannie.

I agree it sounds more like you are going low in your sugar than diabetes. The diet is pretty much the same for both.
I agree that you should see your doctor.

Hi Digimee,
Maybe you want to look at what you are eating? If you are eating a diet of lots of processed foods and foods that give you a quick rush/sugar boost then it may be that your blood sugars are rising quickly and then falling pretty quickly and is calling out for more sugar. If you think this is the case, try changing your diet and eating more fibrous foods (check out the Glycemic Index) and try eating foods that are low to medium. If this is the case, then you'll find that changing your diet will work. You may want to check with your doctor, though to rule out anything else.

Hi there Digimee,
questions i wanted to ask you.Are you getting up in the middle of the night sweating and feeling wierd? Are you raiding the refrigerator at night? Are you getting nightmares of late? The answers to the above questions will tell us whether it is true hypoglycemia or just the fact that you are eating too small a snack during the day, inadequate to cover your physical activity! The mismatch between demand and supply of carb's during the day is also a probability which iam trying to explore in your case.

I will tend to agree with Claire and spooky. To make sure what's happening check your BS reading. That's a sure thing! Also, those feelings are likely your sugars moving...either up or down. Like Claire said...eat slow carbs to stop that feeling.
