I have a question for people who have to deal with C... do you ever feel like your muscles are slightly strained in your lower abdomen? I have been getting these random and very mild twinges of pain on either side in the lower quadrants, really in my pelvic area. I'm freaking myself out thinking its something to do with my ovaries or something, but now I think, maybe its muscle strain bc of straining with the C?????
Help
Also, I do have a doctor's appt in a couple weeks for something else, so I will ask her about this then too. I swear, everytime I see her I have a new weird, random, mild twinge of pain to tell her about :( I hate this :(

Hi hopeful,
I think I get the same thing you do. Sometimes I think it almost feels like period cramps... but if I had to guess I would say they are colon spasms. I say this because I try not to strain when going to the bathroom. If I sit there more than 1 minute and nothing happens, I get up and then go back when I think I can go again.
IBSers have lots of pain so I wouldn't worry about. However, it doesn't hurt to bring up to your doc. Let us know what happens because I'm very curious to what it is too.

Hi Ali,
If its really low, your left side would be the most likely area to get these pains. This is where your sigmoid colon is located and it seems to cause the most trouble. I get really bad pains there, almost knifelike feelings that can hurt really bad. Pain also seems to migrate so the feelings on the right could be the same thing. I would definitely talk to your doctor though just to be on the safe side. Be careful straining... you should take a mild stool softener if your at the point where you are making yourself sore. You can eventually cause problems such a hemmhroids or rectal prolapse. Tell your doctor about all of your symptoms, and make sure he takes you seriously... many doctors seem to just dismiss IBS. If you can, see a GI specialist.

yeah... i do think problems have already occured because of the straining... i.e. fissures :( the first time that happened was like 4 years ago, and it freaked me out bc i saw tiny bit of blood on the tp. thats maybe happened once or twice a year since then, and recently a couple months ago. they seem to heal after a few days and no more problems until the C comes back. when i have nice normal poo it feels fine, but if its C poo, well then it usually involves pain :( i have never talked to a doctor about this bc well, like everyone else, who wants to talk about poo! lol. i know i know, i need to mention it to my doc..... i will... someday.... lol.
anyways, funny you mention the left sided pain - thats where i first started feeling it, and then sometimes if i'm lying on my couch a certain way i can feel it on the right. sometimes if i stand a certain way, like leaning on my left leg with my knee locked i can feel it too. i'm weird, i know. i'm a big ball of random pains that make no sense!!!!
thanks for your input ladies, i really appreciate it :)
