Gall bladder working at 8.8%

After all these years and countless dollars spend on meds and books, "I" finally asked Doc for gall bladder test. Ultrasound came back negative. HIDA scan came back ejection fraction of 8.8% normal is between 75 and 35. Geez do you think some of my problems are related to that...duh! I meet with a surgeon on the 27th. I know I still have gerd, but I'm sure gall bladder has alot to do with the pain and stomach discomfort I've deal with for years. Believe me, you really do have to take care of your own problems to a greater degree. I still think low carb and ajusting diet is headed in right direction. I can't wait to have it out, gall bladder that is. Just thought I'd past this along

I just had a gallbladder ultrasound...came back negative and was not offered this other test. Never heard of it. More questions for my doctor. What is it?

Oh I know I still have the gerd problem, but I never did get much heart burn with mine. Some but that wasn't the big problem, its the chest pain and lower stomach pain, all associated with eating. I can't believe removing gall bladder won't help the main problems. A HIDA scan is usually done after ultrasound. Its just a xray where they have you lay down for about 1 1/2 hours and inject a nuclear type drug in to see how gall bladder pushes it through. Like I said normal is 75-35%, mine was 8.8% abnormally low. Its real name is Hepatobiliary Scan. I hope this gets me some where.

This caught my attention today since I just had mine removed 3 weeks ago. I have had different pains and attacks for over 16 years. In my case the ultra sound done in the ER after a severe attack in early August showed stones, so removal was an obvious solution. I did not have a doctor telling me the cause of the pain and attacks until then, though.

I still have surgical pain so not sure how much it has helped ease the other things yet. It was diseased so I am glad it is out.

I hope the surgeon can really help you and you will feel better soon!

This may be a really stupid question but how does your gall bladder become diseased?

I have no idea about that, blockages I guess like gallstones and some form of crystals too. Its a very common condition, and I don't think ultrasounds should be the only tests.

Hi Gary! I had a excruiating evening and night about a year and a half ago with lots of pain on the right side, radiating to my back. I sat in my recliner, holding my side, sweating and ended up going to the ER the next day. They along with me thought it was probably gallbladder, but since the US of the gb was neg. they sent me home. :( Long story shortened...it turned out that after complaining more, I had a HIDA scan as well and found my gb at about 18%, and surgery was scheduled. The pathology report came back diseased, non working gb with stones.

I'm not sure what this has to do with GERD, but that first endoscopy that I had, is when they discovered the GERD and they were just checking for other things that might cause this right sided pain, like ulcers.

It becomes diseased by not working properly because of stones from what the surgeon told me. The liver takes over the job of hte gall bladder when this happens. Surgeon told hubby that it was clearly diseased, I did not find out WHAt it looked like that showed that, lol.....
