Gastritis a separate disease from GERD?

I have yet to hear about or read any information that differentiates between gastritis and GERD.  Are they the same?
 
1. Can a person have gastritis and NOT have GERD? 
 
2. Can a person have GERD and NOT gastritis?
 
3. Can a person reflux acid without having an inflamed stomach?
 
4. Is excess acid always found with gastritis?
 
I believe this subject has been brought up before, but I am still in the dark about any answers.
 
Try and find a doctor who will tell you the answers.  I have not found such a talkative soul.
I would like to take a poll to see whose doctor has discussed
this issue.   I'm confused. confused    (It's tough to go through life confused!) 
 
So why is this important?  I think it is important so we as patients understand exactly what it is that the doctor is targeting when he/she prescribes medicine or a certain meal plan.
 
Certainly the answers to the above questions may be somewhat different for everyone, but I think the answers to these questions are relevant if we are to understand what is going on in our alimentary canals.

Im sorry but I can't remember what site I was on and cant get the info again to pass it on to you in a diff way. I can remember it said that gastrotits can be fixed...and GERD can't. So I take it they are diff and you can have one without the other. If you google gastritis vs GERD in diff ways...you will most likely come across the site with this info. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Dee-THANKS for answering my post!  I appreciate it.  I am doing some 'Googleing' to try to find some more answers.
I don't know what we did before the Internet.  There was not much information readily available to the public and we for sure didn't get to exchange ideas with like-minded sufferers.
The old saying, "Misery loves company", has turned out to be true!

My doc just dx'd me with gastritis. Simply an inflammation of the gastric region. For me it's my stomach and my duodenum. He prescribed Protonix and it really has helped with the acid and the bloating and pain. He said I don't have GERD.

How did he know it was gastritis and not gerd? Did you get the scope?
