I was wondering if anyone is suffering from anxiety and GERD and if you are on medications for both or what thas worked for you. Iam currently on Aciphex for gerd and i have sever anxiety and am going to the doctor for it tomorrow.

I to suffer from extereme anxiety to where my heart could pound for hours but I am taking Ativan for that In the past couple of months have been having heartburn problems I was taking tagemet over the counter and gaviscon. finally went to the doctors and I am on nexium right now seems to be working . I just hope i caught this in the nick of time so it will heal and i can go on with my life and watch what i eat but not have a chronic problem. but this all happened about the same time I was suffering really bad.
anxiety I do think they both go hand in hand because the more nervous or anxious you get it produces more acid in your stomach so you have to try and control stress.
my anxiety is basically at night cant sleep and heart pounds so the ativan is to help me sleep,
I dont know you're symptoms but maybe your doctor will put you on somethingto control the stress
My doctor told me that most people who have gerd get anxiety from it. So he has prescribed me lexapro because he says im mildly depressed. Im just hoping everythign works.
I had very bad acid reflux caused by anxiety...it was rough. Seriously, one-on-one therapy for my phobia really really helped, and decreased my acid. I also was on Nexium for roughly 4 months. Cleared it right up! Good luck with everything..hang in there!
You say you were on Nexium for 4 months...how did you quit? Cold turkey or did you wean yourself off? I worry about rebound.
If you can I would stay away from medication for anxiety, in my experience the best way is learning some kind of relaxation. The less drugs the better.
I am taking lexapro for anxiety and depression.. I have been on it for 3 weeks and feel a ton better. I was leary of taking an anti depressent because i have heard some say it makes them feel like a zombie. But i feel like a human. So much better. I can actually leave the house. I was scared to be by myself and now im not. Im so glad i started taking it. My doctor told me as mild as my depression is i should only be on lexapro for a year.
