I have been having some tummy issues lately, passed off as anxiety related that are currently getting worse and I'm curious if they sound like GERD.
Sometimes when I move I get bile that come up until my throat and I almost "lose my lunch". I get frequent bouts of chest pain (definately not heart related, had tests ruled any heart issues out), spasms in my chest that originally thought were heart palps, but recently found out that GERD can cause these spasms, belch constantly. Hiatal hernia has also been suggested as a cause of this... my family loves to throw dx's at me.
Just wondering if anyone else has this same combo of symtpoms from GERD.
Sarah
Hi Sarah!
To answer your question...absolutely Yes! - I've suffered with the very same symptoms and I have GERD with Barrett's esophagus and a Hiatal Hernia. It was diagnosed by testing. First a barium swallow, next an endoscopy where they did biopsies on suspicious looking patches in the esophagus. I also have esophageal spasms, which can sometimes feel like it, too, is heart related.
I hope this helps.

Sounds like GERD alright. Which is basically the same as hiatal hernia (if symptomatic). Tests are in order.
Hi Sarah,
There's no doubt that what you're experiencing is likely GERD. A hiatus hernia is actually a cause of GERD--they're not separate entities. They go hand in hand.
So many people have anxiety/GERD confusions and there are times when GERD causes anxiety.
It's definitely time for you to go to your primary care physician and get a GI doctor recommendation. Your primary care doc can order some tests, but at some point it would be good to get the name of a well-respected GI doc.
Good luck! Don't worry. We're all in the same boat here. It's a common problem, and there are lots of way to treat it so you can be comfortable and healthy.

Sounds like GERD to me.... I have it and have had horrible chest pains off and on for the past 3 or 4 years I now believe they are spasms I have had EKGs and a echo of my heart to rule out heart trouble...I also have a sliding hernia ...these symptoms are not fun ...
