I'm going in the morning to follow up on this ovarian cyst business. How the heck can they know it's a cyst with a sonogram?
It did stop hurting, so that's good. I'll test it out tonight (hubba hubba) Oh, Wait, Mom's up from the city and sleeping under my roof, do I dare?

Seriously, I hate this cyst thing. It seems so abnormal. I've never had one before, and am not ovulating now, so what the..... I keep wondering if I have a tumor.

A cyst is fluid filled, and a sonogram should be able to determine if it is solid, fluid filled or what. It has to do with bouncing sound waves off of solid objects. Not sure how it all works though...

A sonogram can very easily see an ovarian cyst. A transvaginal sonogram can even pick up your egg follicles. A doppler assisted sonogram can track the blood flow in the ovaries and if there is any blood flow to the cyst.
If you had a simple cyst that resolved itself, sometimes the amount of "free fluid" in the area is increased because that was once what was filling the cyst. If you had your cyst open a week ago the free fluid will have already been absorbed by your body.
If you have a tumor all types of sonograms can pick it up. Unlike a breast sonogram, a pelvic does not miss things. They clearly see the ovaries, uterus and even the thickenss of the uterine lining.
