Well, I thought I was getting better from the shigella, but I seem to have taken a turn for the worse, yet again. Why do I get infected with food borne illness more than any other American living here in Bolivia? Why doesn't my gut become immune to recurrent infections like it's supposed to? I am awakened every morning at 7 am with cramping and Diarrhea ever since I started with the Shigella at the beginning of the month. The antibiotics seemed to stop the all day long diarrhea and fever almost overnight, so I obviously had something wrong in there, or the meds wouldn't have worked. I am going to go home if this doesn't get under some sort of control. Does anyone know of a great GI Doc in south florida? Someone knowledgeable in infectious diseases? My main symptom of worry is the mucus. Sometimes I'll go and it is more mucus than stool. That is not normal. I took another sample in to the lab for testing as last week 8 people from our office got sick from a bbq. Do you think I am starting to present with symptoms from eating at that party a week ago? Why would it take so much longer for me to have problems than anyone else? This is wearing down on me so much, and my husband acts like I worry too much. I wish he would say we could go home for good because I obviously can't live here like this. I would love to be able to see an american doctor with expertise this week, but by the time I finally manage to get a ticket home, my symptoms will be stabilized or different altogether. Basically, all I am doing is surviving/existing because my quality of life here is horrible because of all these intestinal problems.
Does anyone know what foods to eat to get gut dysbiosis under control?
hi- i can sympathize with you. i have reccurent c dificle from taking too many AX over the last year and this left me with an over growth of bad intestinal flora called c dificle which is a hard bug to kill. they put me on flagyl which i ahve been on before and it has controlled some of my chronic D. now i ahve acid reflex also, i took a 4 days of prilosec which knocked out all aicd in my gut and then the c dificle came roaring back. he told me to eat lots of yogurt as the acididolphpus is good for your intensinal tract health.
try some yogurt then if this dont work get to an doc right away!!! it is bad ot leave this untreated as you have severely impair your GI tract and do some really bad damage as i was told.....they put people in the hospitla for this~!!! dont waste time

In the meanwhile, have you thought about giving up all foods that aren't pre-packaged and cooked by you personally? I know you mentioned your vegetables being suspect and that's certainly a place where you can get food poisoning. You might want to swear off all forms of water that's not in a bottle--including what you brush your teeth with--give up meat and eat only out of boxes, bags or cans and see if that doesn't cut down your reinfection rate some. That's about all I can think of to help you. :-(
Oh, and you might want to not flush the toilet after a run or two and make your husband look at what's coming out of you. He seems too unconcerned about this; maybe seeing how bad it is will change his mind. I can't imagine staying in a place that makes my family member/loved one sick constantly, but, I don't know, I guess some people have a high sickness threshold or something. Or maybe a lack of empathy. I'm telling you, you can't ever have had a major stomach disorder and not be sympathetic to someone else who has one!
I am truly sad because my husband and I had decided to try for another baby last month and then all hell broke loose. I guess it wasn't meant to be :(
