im only a few months away from being reconnected and the bags being lost forever, and i was just wondering about getting back into shape and i want to get back down the gym and lift weights and put on muscle again, but can this be done with a j-pouch inside me?
i know that i'll have to give it a few months to heal before giving it some 'abuse' but in the long run can i go to the gym and lift weights as before or will this put any particular strain on the pouch and dangerous?
guess what im trying to say is, can i eventually go back to lifting weights and being as big as before?
all in good time i know, but i thought id ask now.
anyone?

Stomski,
hi again, yes of course you can do everything you did before, and you can do that with the bag too. Just a month out of surgery and you can start lightly, nothing over 10 lbs, then gradually increase but very slowly. Go to the www.j-pouch.org website so you can see everyone else's experience and ask any questions at all from people who have had pouches for a bit or who are in the same place we are...awaiting takedown..just beware the people on this site tend to have problems, so its not a fair representation of people...the J-Pouch has a 90-95% success rate, so no worries, youll be great.

My friend's father-in-law had the j-pouch surgery, like 3 or 4 years ago, and he is around 60, and he lifts weights and looks pretty built for any age. He also still smokes cigars... and drives a motorcycle and enjoys his life, and swears by the surgery... it sure seems like it did miracles for him.
You're young so should have an even better outcome. I'd still talk about it with my DR just to get their advice, but odds are it shouldn't be an issue.
Best of health,
