Well I had the test done yesterday...what an experience! Everything went ok for about the first 5 minutes I would say then the rest is bizarre....I can remember the neuropsychologist yelling at me to "wake up" over and over...well I was awake but could not speak....next I remember I was in recovery room. The neuropsych. came in and said that I had a bizarre episode during the test...that I started convulsing and was foaming at the mouth...I even tried to rip the catheter out of my thigh(groin) where the needle went in! The Neuro says did not show as seizure on the EEG, the neuropsych was quite worried and told me she did not trust the test results but the Neurologist thought he got enough info, SO this leaves a very confused patient!! I dont remember the episode or convulsing....I dont remember them showing me the objects that I was supposed to say yes or no if they had shown me!!! I remeber her showing me a bunch of objects and thinking "I dont remember being shown ANY objects at all. I guess I am a little freaked out that I reacted like that in the procedure but that it wasnt a seizure....what else could it have been????Labelling it a "bizarre episode" makes me feel uneasy...especially since I will have to take the test again after the subdurals in the fall, before they can operate. The nurse said it was because they gave me ativan (1mg) to calm me down before and thats why I was sleeping through it but I was fine until the sodium am. went in then I felt totally weird. What do you guys think??? Anyione had a reaction like this or heard of a reaction like this? Thanks for your help!!

Sheena, I am so sorry you had such a bizarre thing happen. I hope the experts will figure it out! So frustrating to not remember yet have it seen as something other than seizure....
I really hope they get the best eyes to figure it out. Could it be a reaction to the Ativan or the Sodium Amatol? Just a guess.....

Hi Sheena. That must be so frustrating to not remember what happened to you. I can't see why if you were convulsing and foaming it wasn't a seizure. Get some rest. Sorry you didn't get the results you were looking for. I never had this test so I can't offer any advise but my support. HUGS Tracy
