Well, today is the day. My short, curly, white and black hair is going to change -- to BLONDE!!!!!
I am absolutely thrilled and terrified at the same time. I believe my colorist is, too. I will let you know how it turns out. I am just tired of a hair color that is not really "mine". I did have grey hair before chemo, after all I am 59 years old, but the other color was ash blonde. It was a nice mixture of coloring, a little natural highlighting. This black and white hair is too much -- the white is so white that my hair looks, ugh an unatural BLUE!!
Wish me luck

Well, it's done! and I love it. Was it ever a long day, though. I learned more about hair coloring than I ever dreamed existed. If anyone saw Melissa Ethridge on TV this last fall with her new blond "do", well, that's mine. My hair is white, white, short with most of the curl still in. It is relatively soft and quite shocking. I did not realize that ends of the hair take longer to bleach out than the roots and that all the chemicals (i.e. medications) people put in their bodies make this bleaching up to white even more difficult. Trust me, after 6 1/2 hours this is a job only for the best colorist professional. My daughter was with me the whole way. I believe she thought I would freak out with the end result and start crying.
Finally, at least on the outside, the last vestages of cancer have left my body. That grey hair that so marked me -- only to myself mentally (others loved it) -- is gone. I do not know how long I will keep this hair -- it was expensive to do and will be expensive to keep, but I don't care. I feel so good that I can't wait for the remainder of my highly critical family to see it.

So glad that you like the final look. Have you ever had it blond before. I colored mine before I gave up the wig, I could not believe how much grey I had. I wonder what makes our hair come back a different color and curly? I hope the rest of your family loved your new look, but what really matters is that you like it.

I would not mind doing this -- first, if I knew how and second I do not relish my photo being on the "net" until infinity. I guess I could forward it to an e-mail address.

Oh Judy, that hair sounds fun! Good for you! I'd love to see a picture, too. Too bad it took so long and is expensive.
I fully understand about the last visible sign of cancer being gone. I felt the same way when I colored mine.
