has anyone had h-pylori?

I ran into my doctor today at a community fair and she told me she had been thinking about me and thought that maybe I didn't have ibs but I might have h-pylori. I have heard of people getting diagnosed with ibs but really having this and the treatment was worse than the disease. Anyone have any experience with this?
I've heard that the antibiotics to get rid of it are really strong and tend to make people really sick, but at least it can be gotten rid of, unlike IBS. I think Flagyl is what people have been having to take for it and other types of intestinal bacterias.
Helicobacter Pylori is thought to cause peptic ulcers along the stomach lining from my understanding... I was tested for it when I started having the pain. It takes but a simple blood antibody test to rule out H. Pylori, so you may as well get that done.

Good luck.

The blood test is not very reliable. It even said that on the test results I got from the lab that even though it showed I didn't have it they said an endo biopsy was the preferred diagnosis and they were basically saying this had a high false negative. Sort of a CYA statement. I never showed h. pylori on anything but when my Dr. did the endo my stomach was so inflammed that he said you have it and I don't care what the biopsies say. I took Amoxicillan and Biaxin double strength and Prevacid. It is called the Prevpak. It must have worked because stomach cleared up. I also had the breath test after treatment. I did not find the treatment that hard but I did not take them all together like some people do. Can't remember who said I didn't have to. The Biaxin leaves a bad taste in mouth and can upset tummy big time.
H-pylori is a stubborn little bug that uses its tenticles to swim from high acidic levels to lower acidic level zones in your stomach and then bores itself into your stomach lining causing ulcers.

I have been diagnosed multiple times with it. Everyone has it, its just some of us make it mad and it gets its revenge.

The treatments I know of consist of a 14 day onslaught of antibiotics, and stomach coating stuff (the main ingridiant in Pepto, I am drawing a blank, it starts with a B). Plus an anti-acid, or acid blocker.

I have two different treatments, a Prev-Pack, which consisted of Previcid, Amoxicillian, and Bismol pills. This made me really really sick, so we changed out the Previcid for Nexium and all went well.

However, my symptoms for H-pylori were extremely different from my IBS symtpoms. Its like having non-stop heartburn, or feeling like your stomach is on fire. My throat was on fire as well, and your gut burns too. So it simply feels like you drank some gasoline, and then swallowed a match :)

Be aware that the extreme amount of antibiotics will kill everything in your system, including your flora, so ask your Dr. about flora boosters to keep your good bugs thriving. Otherwise there is a chance you can develope IBS easily.
Does anyone know if gall bladder disease can cause helicobacter pylori in the stomach from too much bile from the gall bladder? I was diagnose with helicobacter pylori by a biopsy during an endoscopy test? A HIDA teet also showed a low-functioning gall bladder.

thanks,

H. pylori is a bacterium that people ingest from drinking water. So it's unlikely that it's related to your gallbladder. You can, though, have both problems of course. You can feel abdominal pain with both conditions. Usually the H. pylori pain will be sort of substernal pain (just under your ribcage) and the gallbladder pain radiates from under the right ribcage to the back.
I had terrible bloating and gas when I was diagnosed with h. pylori though even the biopsy came back negative the Dr. said I had it based on the endo and the way my stomach looked. I took the treatment and had no problem with it then a few months later took the breath test.I really had no pain or IBS symptoms with it, just the bloating and gas. Course I will never know if I really had it but I have been better since then. I also had nausea. I am having a bad time with acid now so wondering if it is back.
I was treated for H Pylori about 6 years ago with the Prev Pak. I was diagnosed after having a blood test taken for it. I remember that I started taking it at work and needed to go home due to having side effects from the medicine. It made me very ill.
The prevpak is 2 antibiotics, double strength and Prevacid or one of the PPI's. Usually they don't use the Bismouth with the PPI though it is possible that some Drs. do but it is usually one or the other but always 2 antibiotics. I was told I didn't have to take the antibiotics all together but have since heard I was supposed to so I had it a little easier. I took a few hours apart so didn't have any problems.

Flagyl is used for c. difficile as that is caused by other antibiotics so they have to use something totally different. It is also used for fungal infections and I understand very hard to take.
Has anyone been diagnosed with H. Pylori with the symptoms of discomfort under the right rib cage (not a pain but a constant uncomfortable pressure)?
Yes, I have had very uncomfortable pressure at the center of the chest, under the ribcage. The pain was like come two parts (Left and right) of the rib cage pressing hard against each other. I could not even drive the car that time. I pull over to get some hot liquid such as hot coffee. Then within 5 mins it becomes ok. I was getting this atleast once a month. After blood test, I was diagonized with H-pylori. Took prevpak, now it is ok. BUT, now I am getting more burps than before. Before hardly any burps.
yes i have it right now and just started tretament, so i do have experience with it. its not thatbad where u cant stand it, but they put you on 8 pills a day for 2 weeks, then some people need to take another set of pills for an extra 3 weeks.

good luck!!
I was diagnosed with Hpylori a few years ago - it was making me very sick to my stomach for a very long time - I threw up at least 2/3 of anything that I ate. I was put on medication for over a month is all I remember and I developed a yeast infection from the meds.
Hello everyone, I know someone who suffers from h.pylori and he is on Denol. I read that H.pylori can cause a peptic ulcer.H. pylori weakens the protective mucous coating of the stomach and duodenum, which allows acid to get through to the sensitive lining beneath. Both the acid and the bacteria irritate the lining and cause a sore, or ulcer.
What are the symptoms of an ulcer?

Abdominal discomfort is the most common symptom. This discomfort usually
* is a dull, gnawing ache
* comes and goes for several days or weeks
* occurs 2 to 3 hours after a meal
* occurs in the middle of the night (when the stomach is empty)
* is relieved by eating
* is relieved by antacid medications

Other symptoms include
* weight loss
* poor appetite
* bloating
* burping
* nausea
* vomiting

Well, I wanted to share these with you...What medication is there apart Denol for treating H.pylori??
Yes, it can. That is how they found out that ulcers were caused by a bacteria when this Dr. injected himself with h. pylori. You can have an ulcer from things like aspirin and other irritants but the treatment for those is different.
Hello, I am new to this site, so please bear with me if I should ask something already covered, or be in the wrong place.

When my daughter was in Middle School, we were told that she likely had h.pylori and was put on an antibiotic (this was determined by a blood test, I believe). As a freshman she had a bout of serious illness that was thought could possibly have been Cryptosperidium, but tests were inconclusive. She was again treated with antibiotics. Now, as a senior, 18 yrs old, she is suffering from chronic nausea. We have seen too many doctors, GI and Nuerology. We started by thinking this was casued by a fall from a horse and trama to the head, neck and R.shoulder. However, all tests thus far, including CT and MRI have been negative.

What I am checking on here is that I was told by a GI doctor that if you have had h.pylori in the past, the blood will always show a test that is positive. When they did blood work for this illness, we were told that her tests were negative for h.pylori and that she couldn't have had it the first time.

Have any of you ever heard of this?
(I will be posting more about our current situation in another area of this site - once I figure out where it belongs.)
Thanks.
I have heard something like this but didn't know it was a forever thing. It really doesn't make a lot of sense. I know they gave me the breath test to see if it was gone. What about taking that one? Has she had an endoscopy? If not that would be the next thing and they can take biopsies for different things.s Sounds like a lot of guessing has been going on. Other than the nausea does she have any symptoms like weakness, lightheadness and that sort. if not I doubt it is from the fall but after suffering from some very weird things last year I found it was all coming from my neck which didn't even hurt so anything is possible. I wonder if an ENT Dr. could help with some of their tests.
It is true that if you have had an H. pylori infection in the past, you will continue to show antibodies to the bacteria in your blood for the rest of your life. This does NOT necessarily mean you have (or ever had) an active infection, just that you've been exposed to it at some point.
h-pylori...... god I hate it!

Sorry, 1st off... Hi folks, I'm a newbie here :)

I was diagnosed with h-pylori over a year ago (Sept 2006) via a blood test. I had a week on lots of drugs.
I continued with the symptoms on and off over the next 12 months. Half way though I had a month on some tablets but obviously did nothing.
It is more a thorn in the side than anything. It restrics the things I want to do.... like go out with the kids, enjoy a holiday etc.

My syptoms are:
Constant nausia
Ocassionally getting ill to the point of actually being sick
lots of stomach acid
Wind - trapped which is a pain! (Literally)
Heartburn

I dunno if this is a symptom too but I also get REALLY tired too?

I have now got to do a new test to see if the bug is still there or returned. It is a "Urea Breath Test" Sounds a barrel of laughs!
