Hi Donna! Welcome to the Arthritis Forum... I've not heard of Phyrotic Arthritis, but I have Psoriatic Arthritis... You usually get it if you have Psoriasis. Do you have Psoriasis? Psoriasis can itch and cause scaly patches on your body... Check out this website, it has all the different types of arthritis listed, it may be able to shed some light on what you are experiencing... Hey Donna,

what stuff you're going through! whew! when did this rash first start? do you think that maybe you're exposed to something causing an allergy effect before this starts...like a food or fabric? i'm going to check my books on your meds and see what dermatological effects they may cause.

i've heard simialr stories like this in the past.

it's very stressful not having insurance. what about a University clinic? like a teaching hospital. i pay out of pocket for my rheummy and PCP. i'm going broke...and thus, really don't follow my appts as supposed to. but what can ya do? gotta eat right??!!

i would definitely keep in contact with the rheummy even if it's by phone...rashes are nothing to fool with and especially ones with swelling.

do you run fevers with this rash?

Thanks for the replies.No I don't have psoriasis or fevers. I thought it could be an allergic reaction to one of my meds but I haven't take any in a month or so. This time it lasted 2 days

! alternating from my left to right sides. It's gone now but my arms and ankles are still sore from all the itching. I've told my rhuemy about this before but he just gave my some creams to use that don't work. Now I'm leaning towards stress and nerves or Lupus. With my house hold I'm always stressed out. I started taking benadryl-maybe that will help. Well Thank you all for the replies and advice. I'll keep ya'll updated if I find out what it is. God Bless ya'll

good call. it does sound to me a Lupus symptom. i was thinking that maybe it could be one of those dangerous rashes from a med, but since you've stayed away from them...that answers my question! the benedryl is a good idea to have on hand.
is it sensitive to sunlight or fluorescent lites??
if it starts to blister, spread, peel or you run a fever or have difficulty breathing /swallowing get to the ER.
rashes are weird...i don't like them! they can be nothing or they can be SERIOUS...so be careful, and take care. it sounds like you know your body pretty well.

If you ever happen to get a chance to see a dermatologist, that wouldn't be a bad idea. They make good diagnosticians sometimes!

Hi Donna - intense non-localized itching can be a symptom of liver disfunction (my aunt has this, due to a liver disease). Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Hmmm, interesting.. I just started getting a strange itching and rash from my elbow to my pinky on one arm am dealing with a lot of itching elsewhere as well (it's slightly swollen as well.) I have psoriatic arthritis (which I bet your doctor said, and I think you can have it w/o having severe or noticable psorisis) I also have autoimmune liver problems (which I guess could be aggrivated by antibiotics I'm currently on causing the new rashes/itching.)

I tried rubbing some hydrocortizone (1% over the counter) on my arm and then covered it with Calamine/Caladryl lotion last night...it sure helped the itching and let me sleep. You might want to give it a try.
