I had a nissan fundoplication full wrap done in October of 2000 and was symptom free for about 1 year. After that they did a barium swallow and discovered that I had significant loss of peristalsis in my esophagus and pooling along with small amounts of regurgetation from stomach. Has anyone else had this happen to them. The doc talked about undoing the wrap halfway that was 3 1/2 years ago and I never went back because of the thought of surgery again. I have just suffered with the reflux since then but it recently got so bad that it affected my asthma and I went to a stomach specialist. I am to the point I am not afraid of having surgery again but would like to know if it has worked for anyone else. I want to make sure it is going to be worth it. Barb

I remember last year you did a post and were complaining about chest pain and they would not check you until your heart issues were resolved. What ever happened because the docs were concerned you had cancer.
Are you ok....I remeber replying to your post but you never replied back.

The doc I had last year did the endoscope and found I had gastritis most likely from the aspirin I was taking for my heart so they took me off that and I just take Plavix for my heart now. My doc this spring had found a combination of meds that worked for my stomach Protonix 2x a day and then carafate 2x a day but that all went to heck when the heart doc put me on Crestor. The heartburn got so bad it affected the asthma and then I started with bowel problems. I am still dealing with the stomach problems on both ends now. My new stomach doc changed me to Nexium 1x a day. And then he ended up putting me back on the carafate 3-4x a day. I am a real mess. Can't hardly eat anything at all. Barb

I am glad you are ok. I was worried about you even though I don't know you. Its funny how with us all dealing with these problems can form bonds with people going through the same thing.

know what you mean. This form really helped me after I had a stent put in my heart at age 42. The heartburn I have had since age 14. Only kid in school with rolaids in my purse. I didn't require prescription meds until I was 23 after having my second child. In 2000 the meds weren't working at all anymore. They found out after 3 months that my gallbladder wasn't working right and took it out. That helped some but still had so much heartburn that they decided to do the wrap. Have you had the wrap done? I am curious to know if anyone that has had one done and then had it undone halfway. I don't want to go through all that pain for nothing again. I think I have the touchiest stomach on the face of the earth. I can't take any of the cholesterol drugs because of that.After this last episode that is still going on I will never take another one of those drugs. I'd rather croak from a heart attack. Barb

Luckily my problems have not been so severe to have me have the surgery done. My only issues was trouble swallowing (eating disorder for many years) and the doc gave me PPI's which has helped alot. The problem kind of comes and goes. One week fine next week not.
I recall reading archives on this post about people having it reversed (at least I think it was this site) I have visited many health boards regarding this issue (hyprochondriac). Have you tried to google it and used the words nissan fundoplication reversal. Google is ohow I have found most of the health sites I have joined.

I had not thought to do that. I haven't looked through all the achives here yet. I wish meds would just help. You are lucky that they work for you. Sometimes I feel like a hypochondriac with all my health problems. But unfortunately they are all real and documented problems that need to be taken care of. I have lost 15 pounds since June because of not eating but unfortunately my body has now discovered I am starving it. I need to lose about 60 more though. So now I am writing down calories and was shocked to find out I only had 330 for the day after lunch. I will have to go get some soy yogurt and drink protien shakes to bring it up there. I don't even like to eat with all the pain it causes, gas and diarrhea. How come you didn't eat? Barb

I have heartburn every night that wakes me up. Some nights it is worse than others. Sometimes it hurts in my chest and all the way through to my back. I have lots of cramps and terrible pain from whatever is wrong with my intestines mostly at night. I still had problems even though I took gas-x and the chlordiaxipide clidium caps before bed. It wasn't quite as bad as the other 2 nights. The doc did mention that it may or may not worsen the problem but that was the surgeon and that was 3 1/2 years ago. I want to talk to my new stomach specialist about it. The next step he wants to take is to put the tube down for 24 hours that measures how many time and how much reflux there is over a 24 hour period. Had that done 2x. Yuck. Barb

I take Prilosec perscription and I don't usually take it every day. I try to only take it every 2 to 3 days. I don't like to take drugs if I don't have to. I guess I am one of the lucky ones my problems arn't even as close as bad as yours are. I get a little scared though my 52 year old sister was diagnosed with Barretts so I am paranoid about getting it. She does though have a long history of drinking, smoking and drugs.
You mentioned you have had your problems since you were in your early teens. Did you develop this condition as well?

I don't have Barretts yet but am afraid of getting from it all this acid reflux. I have an aunt that has it and my grandpa who had similar problems like mine died in his 60s from stomach cancer. I also had my dad that died from pancreatic cancer and his dad from colon cancer. I had a precancerous polyp removed from my colon last year. So am a little freaked out by the C word. I am only 43 and have too much to live for. I have 2 grown children and a granddaughter. Besides that I don't know if my handicapped hubby could make it without me. We have already agreed that he would go live with my son in North Carolina though. Well I better start thinking about going to bed. I dread the pain that comes at about 1 or 2am and lasts for hours. I am going to have call the doc if this doesn't get any better. Talk to you later. Barb

my name is nancy and last summer i had a large hiatal hernia repair with a troupet partial wrap but i didn't want the wrap part by my general surgeon said i needed one for relief of heartburn, stomach and chest non cardiac pains, nausea; started having trouble at 3 mo. post op with nausea, pain in wrap area, feeling of something moving; then in jan of this year i ate fastfood and within one hr. i began sweating, rectal bleeding, nausea, diarrhea which was colitis and cipro, flagyl and xifaxan got the bacteria out of me after 2 months of colitis which stopped in march thank god; then right after, i began what i describe as the world's worst nausea i've ever had, debilitating, intolerable and daily with intense pains in wrap area and my gi and surgeon have no answers for me; my new endo showed a new hernia but ct and barium didn't show one and my surgeon thinks i have no new hernia; i can't eat/drink, have NO appetite and can't even function anymore as a single mom losing my car/house and most importantly time with my son; am now trying to get into a specialist possibly at cleveland clinic in oh; any advice, referral or direction is appreciated; thx.
Nanc, I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties. You've picked up a very old thread here - perhaps you'd like to start your own thread and introduce yourself?
