Hi everyone,
I usually post on the Crohn's Disease forum, but lately I have been having heart palpitations. My doctors have checked to make sure none of my CD meds are causing my problems, and I have had bloodwork, an echo, and a stress echo come back okay. The only problem on my Holter moniter was "premature atrial and ventricular contractions." So there is nothing they can do medically to help the palpitations, but I was wondering if anyone has found something that helps them (such as a type of exercise or little trick) to make them go away. Any responses greatly appreciated, and sorry for the long post!
Hi JellyBelly!
I just happened across a friend a few minutes ago that has had these palpitations, plus! She told me to tell you to stay away from caffeine and that some people have different triggers for pvc's and pac's...it could be something you ate...stress...exercise...she said to keep a log if possible and maybe you can find something external that's causing them and then you can avoid that. Also trying to distract yourself while they are happening may help to get your mind off them.
I hope this helps you!!
Thanks Lil!!

Hi Jellybean! Here are the most common triggers for arrythmias: As mentioned, caffeine including chocolate,
nicotine, alcohol or drugs and stress. I've heard different opinions on antihistamines and decongestants. Basically, anything that changes the adrenaline level can cause an episode. When I've had PVC's or PAC's I do try to get my mind off them otherwise the stress just makes them worse. I do deep breathing or just get myself busy so I don't think about them as much. My cardiologist did prescribe a beta blocker for me to take when I had an episode but no more than once a day. My PVC/PAC's were the result of the ablation I had until my heart healed so I didn't have them very long or very often. I know they can be very annoying! Hope this helps you. Hugs, Pat
