Hello & Good Day to All with Heart Disease, or Caregivers!

Good Morning!! tongue

I was just reflecting this morning on how in such a short time, we've begun to grow already here on the Cardiovascular Board and with all your input and help this is what makes a great board even better!

So I wanted to thank each of you for your help and I hope with time that new friendships will be started and more support will mean that we've helped someone else each day get a better start with their life!!

Hi Teri, today I'll be graduating from cardiac rehab. Yahoo! Still don't have my exercise room in working order so will have to get on that ASAP since it is too cold and dangerous to walk outside. I fell on the ice last week and tore my hand open. It took 15 minutes to get it to stop bleeding. Oh how I wish I could move to a warmer climate. I couldn't get my boots on because that foot is still sore and tennishoes aren't too good on the ice. Hope I won't need boots soon. Talk to you later. Barb
Oh no Barb, sorry you fell and hurt your hand!  Ewww, I couldn't take the cold and snow anymore!  Well, come on out here to Phoenix!  teehee!  yeah Hugs, Pat
Congratulations upon gradating from cardiac rehab! I remember when I did and got to start exercising on my own. I was a little worried because I would not be on a heart monitor, but I got over that, and am so glad I went through rehab. I hope it changes your life for the better! Hugs, Kathy

Happy grandmother of Amanda, Alayna, Wyatt and Ezekeal. Had my first heart attack, and hopefully the last ever, the first of January. I want to stay around for a long time in case these 2 sons of mine decide to reproduce one day. Had a CYPHER stent January 5, 2004. Diagnosed with CAD and CHF. Currently doing cardiac rehab and feeling stronger every day.

Barb,

I hope you're doing okay?  That hand sounds painful!

We'll just have to wrap you up in a snow mobile suit and add padding to your mittens yeah if you are going to do any more out door walking on ice!  I'm with Patoolla, I don't think I could handle too much of that cold anymore.

Congratulations on graduating from your rehab class~that's wonderful news!!

I was never able to take rehab as my insurance wouldn't pay for it, nor did any my cardio team recommended it for me!  However, I'm a mover and it's hard to keep me sitting too still...even at the computer I'm popping up and down doing something else! tongue And they tell me now, they didn't think I need it cuz they felt I was motivated enough lol...I still think it would have been fun!

Hi to Pat and Kathlyn, I'm glad to see ya'll up and posting today! tongue

And to all~have a great evening!

Good Morning Teri--I am peeking in from work--Shame on me
pretty soon I will probably won't have to worry about having a job! LOL! I finally remembered my password--Have a great day ALL!
P.S. I graduated from my rehab class last Friday and I must admit I do not exercise very well with out a structured program (even though this is my 3rd rehab class) It is so hard for me to make myself exercise when I get home from work I am tired after being gone 10-12 hours guess I am going to have to learn to be better! I would join Phase 3 except they are not open when I can go-
Hi Everyone! tongue

I've been on for a while here, but forgot to come here and say Good Morning, so will say Hello and Good Afternoon to All!! yeah

Stardreamer, Congratulations to you, my friend!!  I'm so proud of you as well~it's not easy going through all this rehab, especially when you have all the ongoing health concerns that you already have happening!  Perhaps you may want to share some of these things with the other members here, so we can all catch up on one another's health?!  Big Hugs!! tongue

Heidi, those are always good suggestions!!  Thank you!  You, too, may want to share your problems as well?!  yeah

I'm off today, the shop is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays, so no birds, but my own today! lol  Petey and Pookie, my mommy and daddy cockatiels have 3 eggs in their nest and I'm counting the days!  The first one should hatch (if we're lucky) by March 28th-31st.  Woohoo!!  Yesterday, I worked more with the baby cockatoo at the store and it's already getting up on my hand and lays on it's back to get a tummy rub, which is a sign of trust from a bird.   Almost had a man buy him yesterday...I actually was hoping he would-cuz, I'm really falling in love with this little guy!  We got 3 baby Ring Neck Parrots in yesterday as well, so I have my hands full every moment I'm there, and I really love it!! tongue

Have a beautiful day, Teri

PS  Look for the new topic..."How is You Health and What are Your Concerns Regarding This?!"

"Because he is he and I am I."......E. V. Lucas

Good morning all. I haven't posted on this site for a long time. I got to work this morning and was just doing a little surfing and I saw "healingwell" and remembered all the good times from a long time ago. It sure is nice to see familiar "faces" congregating here.

Teri, I see that you are a moderator here and I think that is great. You always do such a great job of it. I haven't talked to you in a while and I hope and pray that everything is going good for you. It sounds like the birds are doing their job and keeping you active. I have 7 german shepherd puppies at home right now. They will be five weeks old in a few days and really help me keep my mind on something other than heart disease, which is a good thing. I think we all need to find an outlet for the constant thoughts and concerns that are part of having this disease.

My heart is still beating. I have 40% left, but it is doing okay. EF is holding pretty steady at 20. The newest problem is an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm that is growing pretty fast. I will have to have that fixed before too long. My ICD has been doing its job and keeping the arrythmias in check and all the meds are keeping my bp at around 80/50. Still get dizzy all the time, but have gotten used to that too. I think it is amazing what we can become used to when we have to.

Anyway, good morning to all of you and always remember that it is always a "Beautiful Day for Smiling".

I had a massive heart attack on May 4, 2003.  I didn't know it at the time, this was my second.  Thru the course of diagnosis while in ER and catheterization it was determined that I had 3 arteries 100% blocked, 1 artery at 98% blocked and 1 artery at about 85% blocked.  I was told that if I didn't get to surgery within 30 minutes I was dead.  I was raced by ambo to a sister hospital and in surgery within 20 minutes.  After surgery I had oxygenation problems and was in ICU for 5 days.  During that time I was told that the front of my heart didn't make it and that I was going to have a future problem with cardiomyopathy because of the strain the back of my heart would be under.  I have EJ fraction around 20 and have had numerous echo-cardiograms to monitor heart function.  To date I have recovered very well.  I cannot do what I used to but feel great.  In September of 04 I had an AICD implanted more or less to act as a saftey net for when my heart stops.

Good Morning! tongue

Steve, welcome home to Healing Well!!  Thank you for your kind words~they're much appreciated.  I hope that you will continue to feel welcomed here and come on in whenever you feel the need~our door's are never locked here and we're open 24 hours a day! yeah

I've known you've certainly had more than your fair share of health problems to deal with, but you've set a great example to many with the life you continue to live and the positive example you set for many.  I for one, will have a hard time keeping up with you!

Wish we lived closer, Steve, I'd love to play with the pups!! tongue

Love, Teri

Hi Steve, good to see you here.  :-) Sorry about your aortic artery anuerism!  My brother in law recently had to have surgery for that.  He's doing pretty well now.

Awww, I love puppies!  Bet yours are cute as can be!  tongue Hugs, Pat

Hi , my name is Brian . Recently I began to play raquetball with my brother . I noticed in between breaks
my heart felt as if it was skipping or fluttered once in awhile . It wasn't really painful , but it got my attention everytime it did it . When I got home , I went bike riding and it really became noticeable . It persisted about every other minute for about an half hour and stopped .They were quik and split second feelings .I'm about 40 pounds overweight and havn't exercised like that in a while . Maybe the sudden exitement and exercise caused it . My father mentioned that it may be caused by fat
around the heart rubbing around my chest cavity . Its been a couple of weeks , and no symtoms have occured since . I hope maybe I didn't damage my heart anything . I still want to exercise . I went for a
45 minute uphill bikeride recently and no symptoms occured . What do you feel caused this ? I am 27 and
feel ok , maybe Im paronoid .
Hi Teri, I told my hubby maybe we need to invest in alot of bubble wrap. lol. My hand is healing up nicely. Now once I get over this sinus infection I should be doing better. I hate winter so much now that I'm older and don't do well with the cold. Some day I'd love to move to a warmer place, but it'd have to be by my grandbaby. Shes in North Carolina right now and someday may move to Tennesse where her mommy is from. I could handle Tennessee much better. Besides I love Country music. Have to go to my night job now. Barb
Hi Trent, It might not be a bad idea to run your symptoms by a doctor just to make sure. One thing that can cause your symptoms is dehydration. You had quite a workout with the raquetball and then bike riding especially if you haven't exercised like that in quite awhile. Electrolyte imbalance can cause those symptoms, but a doctor is still the best bet on determining what is or was going on.

Hi Brian, when I went to the hospital the doctor said that the half beat my heart was skipping is just normal for some people and there was nothing to worry about with that, but I did end up having a stent put in my Left decending artery because it was 80-90% blocked. So it is a good thing that the skipping along with the shoulder/arm pain and shortness of breath sent me to the hospital. Stress and lack of sleep tend to make my heart do that. I started having that in my 20's off and on over the years. I'm 42 now. I'd still consult a doctor about it though. You never know what they might find. Take care and keep us posted. Barb
Hey Pat I'd love the weather out by you. Bet it'd be better for my asthma too.

Hey Kathlyn did you keep up with the exercise on your own? I've been so sick since Tuesday with a sinus infection that seems to be going down into my chest now that haven't been able to exercise. Trying to extra rest. So with that thought I'm going to lay down and take a nap cause I worked last night. talk to you all later. Barb

Thanks for the input . Ever since my father had is heart attack at 40 , I saw what he went through and now I'm self concience about everything little thing that happens to me . Again , thanks for your inputs.

I agree with the others Trent. Sounds like you might have some kind of arrythmia and MOST of them are not dangerous as long as you don't have any other heart problems. So its good to get checked out, especially with a family history of heart disease. Will put your mind at ease too.  :-) Welcome to the board!

Hi Brian, I would definitely have it checked out ASAP since your dad had a heart attack at age 40. Make sure they don't stop at just a blood test and ekg. Mine were normal. The stress test is what showed that I had a problem and then the found the blockage when they did the angio to check it out. I am very lucky they found it because of where it is there would have been alot of damage to the left side of my heart and that's if I would have made it. I never would have known to press for a stress test with the nuclear study. I was ready to go home after they gave me pain meds and said the other tests were normal and it probably was the asthma and the fibromyalgia, but the ER doc I had decided he wanted to do one more test. Thank goodness for that. Take care and get that checked out. Barb
Hi Brian!

I'm so glad that you found us~Welcome to HealingWell!!

You've gotten plenty of good advice here from some experienced people!  The one thing that I'd like to repeat here, is to please go to a Dr. and get a good baseline physical.  Stress test, Lipid (Cholesterol) and Hepatic (liver) function tests done, an ekg, an echo cardiogram and a good talk to a Dr. about your quest for a good physical fitness program and nutritious diet!  Your father died at a young age and therefore to rule out any heredity factors with you, I think that would be a feasible request to any Dr., though I can also hear you balking and saying, no Doctors! lol

Arrhythmias and Fibrillations along with Heart Flutters are funny things...sometimes they are completely benign and sometimes they represent on going troubles.  So please take our advice and call your Dr. and make an appt., okay?!

And let us know how you are doing?

Best wishes, Teri
