SO in a few hours I am going to see the neuro again for the second time. I don't have a clear list of questions for him. Some things that I find trivial may be important. I am wondering what to ask him. I certainly have some strange episodes/feelings during sleeping, or that wake me out of my sleep. Is it strange to ask for another AEEG? Or is that something that the Neuro orders over time, or for a specific reason. I would actually like another AEEG, though I don't know if there is a good enough reason for another so soon. I want to change meds and get off Keppra, but I want to wait until school is over in June. I am not even sure why I started this thread. I guess to get some feedback as to what I should ask the neuro. I have waited 5 months for this appointment and this morning, my mind is blank. Thanks Tracy
Tracy, Good luck on the appointment! I would bring the questions up to him. If he thinks they are small, he wont spend much time on them.....worth asking anyway....
As far as AEEG, ask him if it would help any to see what the nighttime events are. If they are every night he might look into a 24 hour VEEG instead. Both of these are really expensive, and depending on your insurance it might be hard to do one soon. The Neuro is the best one to ask about how helpful it would be right now....
Hang in there. Hoping he agrees to a med switch at some point to help the side effects issues....

Thanks alot Ginny. Here is my list so far:
Another AEEG
Nighttime episodes...the electrical buzzing feeling.
Waking up very confused mid night. Becoming aware while already sitting up
changing meds after school
weight gain/ hair loss/ cholestrol so high (241)
That is all I have for now. I feel like I should have some more and better questions for him.. My mind is just blank. Darn it. It is that extra Keppra I have been taking at night to counteract my anti-biotics. thanks Tracy

All questions are very important just ask away thats what you are there for.
I would not think its to soon to have a AEEG or even a EEG at this point its been awhile since you had the other one.
Jeremy had 2 of them within 3 months of each other one before meds one after meds.
Keep us posted!

Thank you so much everyone. It was a very strange visit. First he had an NP examining me alone asking a bunch of questions. Then the Neuro later came in and addressed afew of my "nightly episodes" . He ordered for me to have a sleep deprived EEG next Friday. I personally would rather have another 24 hour EEG. Even if they didn't catch anything. There is no way I will be able to stay up all night. SO I am going to call tonight and see if I can have an AEEG again. But he is proactive and I am glad he sends me for testing. THanks everyone for the great advise. Oh he also told me he isn't sure if my jerks at night and in the morning are just normal jerks or epileptic jerks. He also told me the next drug he would put me on would be topomax. He said that they are looking into putting it out as a diet drug soon. I thought that was interesting. He said it would help with the weight issue from the Keppra. Thanks again,
I sure hope the EEG can help him know what is going on!! Will he start Topamax after the EEG?
No I am going to wait for school to end in june before I change meds. I am still waiting to hear back from the office to see if I can have an aeeg. THanks alot Tracy
I e-mailed you earlier. Hope that the appt went well. Like Sonya said, no question is unimportant. Sz's can be elusive and sometimes subtle symptoms are what can help Dr's dx sz's. Let us know how it went. ((Hugs))
Christine
Tracy, It sounds like your appt. went good and you have DRs that will work with you. That is so important. This EPI Clinic I have started to go to seems like they will work the patients. I've only been once but I have talked to the nurses and Dr over the phone. It is hrad changing Drs but this good be for the best. I took alot of questions with me and forgot to ask half of them. So I called and the nurse answered what she could and got the other ansers from the Dr. I thought that was nice. You said you would not start another med until school was done in June. Why is that?Could you tell me what a AEEG is. Hope all is going well with your mom now. If not I'm sorry. And with other people in your life. you take care of your self. Mary
Thanks alot mary. The new drug topomax that he wants to start me on is very hard on the brain as far as being able to concentrate and remember things. It really is hard on cognative function. SO I want to stay on the Keppra until school is over. Also alot of people have seizures during med changes and I really don't want to chance anything during school. I am going to try my hardest to not have anything get screwed up again. Thanks for the well wishes. Aeeg is and ambulatory eEG that you carry home with you for anywhere from 24-72 hours. I had one in august for 24 hours and picked up some activity during my sleep. Take care Tracy
Thanks for the imformation Tracy. When I have had med changes it was because I was having to many seisures so I did not realize that when you get a new med it could cause them. I guess even if the med was good for you. Going to school you would not need to deal with new side affects. Take Care Mary
Yeah, I am going to try to stick it out as long as possible. Thanks alot for thinking of me. Tracy
to remember what you want to ask the doctor write them down when you think of them and take the notes with you when you go
