Hello all. I have type 2 diabetes and crohns. I have a very physical and demanding job. The trouble is when I am hard at work my blood sugar drops rapidly and I get weak. Do any of you have a snack or food that brings you back fast. I have tried colas, oj, raisins. It still takes longer than I have to sit and wait. The company I work for has no patients , I am trying to keep my job. Help please...James
orange juice or glucose tablets that you can buy at any drugstore will be the best to raise your blood sugar, but anything you take is not instant, the quickest you can give yourself is 15 minutes before your sugars start to rise.
Thank you Marol. I'll try the glucose tabs. I think I need to find a new job though.
Sniper,
The glucose tabs that Marol mentioned works faster for me than other things, and a bit quicker in about 15 minutes. Have you tried snacking earlier in the day. A banana will do a good job and will hold the carbs for a while.

You only live once, but what you do now will determine how long that once will be.
Growing old is mandatory...growing up is optional.
gschmitt ,,I eat bananas too. I just can't seem to get past the warn out feeling when I push hard.
Sniper,
If you take insulin it may be time to talk to your dr. about this and get your insulin adjusted for those periods of such high physical exertion. This can get a lot worse when the weather warms if you are not working in a controlled enviornment. The glucose tabs will bring the sugar level back up quickly but you will still need to add some long term carbs as they are meant for that purpose. I can see where you can be in a bad situation with your company about your condition but you still have rights. Look into the Americans with disabilities act sometime.
