I agree that the sentinel node injection was painful...I cried. I told my oncologist about it later and he was surprised that they don't do it after we are sedated since it is such a sensitive area. To me that was the worst part of my surgery experience!
Ask your doctor for a copy of your operative report and surgical pathology reports ...they have all kinds of interesting info on them.
It is hard to absorb all this stuff and I found myself reading and re-reading these and researching to see what it all meant. I believe that most of the ladies in here are really great at explaining what different things mean...so let us know what you find out about your results and if you have any questions about it.

Beth, I cried too during that injection. That part with the radioactive tracer was the worst...but it was done way before the surgery. Then I went up to to pre-op and had to wait a while, I guess it is too long for anesthesia. I wondered why they did not give us an injection to numb it, and they said that it could interfere with the intricacy of the radioactive injection.

How odd! I remember going the day before and being injected and marked for the sentinel node, but I remember no pain that day nor anything before I woke up after the surgery the next day. As for the zingers that you mentioned in your other note, Beth, I still get them occasionally. I believe exercises help.

I was actually so scared of the injection that I almost cancelled the surgery! I was freaking out over the whole thing and having second thoughts the day before and called the surgeon to see if I could have valium or something the next morning. He approved it but they didn't give it to me soon enough. It took affect after the injection but before i got into pre-op and don't remember anything after the injection until after surgery.

I guess I should do my exercises more consistently.

Juju I dont know what they did to you but Im far from a baby and I wanted to cry like one!!! My radiologist warned me ahead of time she said that they used to give a local ahead of time but found that it interfears with results. I sqeeezed the mamo techs hand so hard I thought I would break it. Im not a small person either 5'9. I dont know why they cant do it after the general kicks in too. I will NEVER have that done again unless medicated. I have had 2 children over 10lbs with no meds but those shots hurt!
I still dont have results from the lumph nodes, my Dr called yesterday and I missed her call I called her back and she had left for the day and is off today. I have called 2 times today trying to get info but none yet. I have a feeling that at least some have cancer but will deal with it when it comes.
Can I ask all of you a question????? I still have not cried since learning that I have cancer. That cant be normal, I must be holding everything in. I thought for sure I would when I got the "cancer" diagnosis but nothing. I know when it comes I will probably be a bursting dam.:)
Beth I had to laugh when you said you almost canceled your surgery because of the injection, I felt that way when it took 2 nurses and 4 times to get my Iv in. My whole hand is bruised pure black and blue. The first nurse went through the vain and then tryed again there was blood everywhere and still she tried again. It has been 4 days now and Im still just a little sore but not horrible. The worst part is that my breast is smaller than the other by quite a bit, but no complaining at least for now it is still there.

Let me tell you they must have meant killer bee's-LOL.The day of my surgery I finally broke down and really cried. So far that , and my first day of chemo have really been about it.We all function on different emotional levels, and maybe you are still in shock.I know that is how I coped at first, it was sort of self protecting.Lets pray for clean nodes-

Hey, I am not fearless, but I am very susceptible to drugs. Like when I had my daughter over 30 years ago, they gave me a little valium and I never woke up for the delivery. Don't think I am lucky though, my normal bp is 90/50 and everyone thinks I go into shock after surgery and they won't give me anything for pain. Ha Ha.
I was diagnosed after a long drawn out process -- am I beginning to sound like the drama queen?-- and had to pitch a fit to get surgery before Christmas. One doc even wanted to wait until Feb 20 for the surgery. So no, I did not cry at first -- went through Thanksgiving -- got the diagnoses for real the day before and did not cry until I went home by my self after the surgery and started staying alone. At some time, it will just come, so don't worry. Too much is going on now.
Just know we are here for you whenever.

Oh Michelle I had another question for you, are you the one that goes by mikki? I used to talk to a mikki on pogo games and her real name is Michelle. Anyway how long have you been dealing with all of this and what have you gone through?

We have another Michele (with one L) also from Michigan, she is Mikki. She is a nurse with loads of personal and professional experiences. We miss her, she is busy living life and does not post as often as she used to....but she pops in now and then.
