Well, ladies.......another thing to deal with. My husband fell off the neighbor's garage roof yesterday and shattered his left heal bone. Needless to say, he is in the hospital. He will be needing surgery, but we have to wait until the swelling goes down - maybe a week. It's a good thing he didn't do this a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't have been able to help him up or to the car. Two of my neighbors saw it happen and rushed over. I was in the kitchen baking and didn't hear a thing. Thank goodness for great neighbors!
He is in terrible pain and complains that the bed in uncomfortable. He's not the type of person who can just sit or lie down and do nothing. This is going to be hard on him. He won't be able to put any weight on it for 3 months and possibly, in a year, will need another surgery.
The topper is - this is his last week at his current job. He (supposedly) is to start a new one in 2 weeks! I don't know about that. At least it is the left leg, so he should be able to drive.
Is this another test??? I think I already passed!!! He is the type of person that thinks 'why me?' 'I hate my life!' - which makes it hard on me. Thank goodness I am strong - otherwise, I would be a basket case by now. 
By the way, he wasn't putting up Christmas lights. He was trimming a tree - THE NEIGHBOR'S TREE!!! It is terribly grown over and drops a sooting residue on my lemon tree. I hate it too, but I wouldn't climb on the roof. I need to talk to the neighbor about getting it trimmed (or cut down). I think it was actually a seedling that sprouted many years ago and it just kept growing. It's right up against the brick wall and serves no purpose. This is a new neighbor, so maybe they will be willing to do it. The old neighbor wouldn't.
Sorry to vent, but that's what it's all about here. Other than this, I'm doing great. I started baking again for selling. In fact, I have a big order for Tuesday, but don't think I'll be able to get it done. They will understand.

I am so sorry. Sometimes I do think that we are tested everyday. One time my Mom told me that God only gives us as much as we can handle. and I lost it. Told her my plate was full and I come from a big family so let's start sharing the load.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all the time. Your brother cornered me at Mom's house a couple of weeks ago and told me to "get on line" . I started laughing. Told him I would just busy.
When is your next chemo. Here's hoping that it goes smoothly.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and hubby right now. I know from experience that men are the worst patients sometimes. 4 years ago my husband was at work and had their boiler blow up on him and had 3rd degree burns on his hands and face and the recovery was torture. Thank goodness for us women who love them. I will be thinking of you both during this time.

Well I would certainly think you have been tested. Its one thing to deal with this beast its another to deal with a husband that is laid up. Believe me I agree no one should have all this to deal with at one time. Come and vent anytime you need to. I am sure if it were me I would be signing my name Complaining again from Pa. Hugs Joyce

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. As luck would have it, I have a good friend recovering from the same injury. She fell out of a 3rd floor window in August. Is he getting an artificial heel? That's what she has. She also had to wait nearly a week before surgery. I can give you more info if you'd like, but don't want to take up space here.

Ouch that sounds painful! Some men should never get on roofs. My husband has done it many times and has had no accidents, but I am always fearful. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this right now, your plate is full enough for sure. Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers that he will heal quickly. MK

That is horrible! when it rains it pours....but I just was listening to my Jodie Messina Cd on the way home (she's a country music singer) and she has a wonderful song called "Bring on the Rain"... among it's lyrics are: " no I'm not gonna let it get me down, I'm not gonna cry, and I'm not gonna lose any sleep tonite; 'cause tomorrow's another day, and I am not afraid, so bring on the rain" I listened to it alot during chemo. Seems to me to be an empowering song when you're down. Listen to it at Barnes and Noble sometime!
I hope your hubby's heel improves, and if surgery is needed, that is is effective.... sorry you are in difficult times......just think though, a heel is better than him breaking his neck... (sorry - I had to throw in a 'it could be worse' analogy.) I hate those but sometimes they help.
