Hi Ladies
My hubby finally had his surgery yesterday all 9 1/2 hours of it. It was even worse than they thought. when they opened it up there were pieces of bone everywhere. They had to go to the bone bank and replace alot of the bone. He now has a plate screws and pins in there. The Dr came out and gave me the exrays after the surgery and I cant believe how many screws and pins are in there. They put a cathater in his leg so that he has constant pain meds but he said he can still feel pain in the heel the rest is just numb. He was totally out of it when they brought him back to his room, this morning he is more awake but not totally yet. another 3 months of him being laid up!!! Thanks for all of your support and prayers.
Hugs:)

OMG that sounds horrible. It really has to be painful. And surgery that lasted that long had to be tedious and difficult. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs MK
Glad everything went OK. Your hubby will be at home and laid up for 3 mo??! EEK!!!!! I don't envy you! LOL! Sending prayers and good thoughts to you both. L&H, Gail

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Yes Gail he will be home for 3 months.........he has already been home 3 weeks and it is driving me crazy I hate to see what 3 months will do to me. It would not be so bad if he could do something but he cant put any weight on that foot so there is not alot he can do. I spend my evenings waiting on him and cleaning thats after working all day. Okay enough of my complaining. He has done his share of waiting on me while I was sick.

Oh Bernadette,
That sounds even worse than my DH's situation. He didn't have nearly that long of a surgery and only 1 or 2 pins and a plate. The pain is the worst pain anyone can experience, from what I've heard. Won't he be able to get around on crutches? That's how my DH got around. He started a new job just 3 weeks after his surgery! It is going to be very hard on you, but as I said, you can do it. I am here for you anytime. I totally understand what you are going through. Good luck to you both.

I will be bringing him home today so I will be busy keeping him comfortable. We are going to get a small scooter type thing for his leg, Im not sure what they call it but you put your knee on it and push it around. They say it is much easier to use than crutches.
Kathy
Yes the break was very bad, the Dr said that the 3 worst pain levels are having a baby, breaking your calcaneous and passing a kidney stone. well I should get going and pick him up. Have a great day.

Hi all
I have him home now and he is barely able to get around. He has just stayed in the bedroom most of the time. I have to change his bandages every day and the first time I did it I was surprised at how large the incision was. It starts at the middle of his foot and goes all the way up his heel. Pretty gruesome looking, thank goodness that blood does not bother my stomach. I cant wait till he is able to get around a little better.
sunshine I have never been in any of the chat rooms I guess I will have to try them out.
