It's does you good to have a whinge occasionally.
cheers everyone.
Wish I had some magic words to offer you that would make the stress go away... but I don't. I'm only struggling with type 2 so I don't have much to say... except that in a way, my diabetes has been a blessing. It's made me so much more caring about my family and aware of how precious life is. My son-in-law is most likely going to get diabetes. Both of his parents have it. Now I have to think of my grandchildren and how likely they are to develope this dumb disease. But things are better than they used to be. Meds are improving and people are more understanding. I'm with you in spirit, and want to offer you my wish that you feel better soon.
Lame, but it's all I have.

It is a daily thing we have to put up. But in the long run for people like me that have multiple ailments by keeping my blood sugar in the good range I have less problem with some of the others because I am eating better and getting as much exercise as my body will allow.
But it isnt the end of the world as long as we control it , not it controling us.

Jeannie143 - don't say "just type 2" ~ it's just as bad as type one and causes just as many headaches.

I am on Lantus and it worked wonders for me! Brought my readings to normal people levels in a week! (That's how long it took for me and doc to get the dosage correct.) One thing I have found... if you are a bit careful and don't insert the needle into the bottle all the way so the needle isn't coated with insulin on the outside, it doesn't sting. Whenever I stick the needle in all the way I sting... Good luck! I'm hoping for you!

I started on it today. It would be wonderful to be able to control things.

Don't walk in front of me....I may not follow
I am ready to deal with it now, but I feel so stupid!! I know nothing, really. I have an appointment with the diabetes clinic in my town this week, and have actually been checking my blood at least 1ce a day since I saw my dr last week. A drastic improvement! I got new meds to add to my day, and I have been keeping a food diary. I keep thinking I should do more, but right now, this is all I can handle. My husband and daughter have decided to help me, and will be eating properly right along with me, thank goodness for their support!
BTW, does anyone EVER get used to maltitol, or is it a horrible joke?
Hi Sugarless, I'm glad you found the Forum. You'll learn lots of useful information when you read back through the past topics here. I understand about the trouble with accepting having diabetes or living in denial because I did that for more than six months. When I actually had to monitor my blood sugar everyday, it hit me that uh oh I can't deny this. That's when I spent hours and hours online looking for information on how to deal with it. Suddenly, I didn't know what to eat. The diet my physician gave me to follow certainly didn't give me readings that these websites said I should have. Then, I found this forum and spent hours reading past topics. Well, long story. Then, it became a challenge to control my blood sugar while finding food I could eat. Lots of trials and errors. During that time, I learned of the glycemic index which helped me understand why I shouldn't eat some food. The better informed you are, the you'll be and the better you can avoid future health problems or complications if your blood sugar is normalized. So, you'll be fine. Maltitol is used in lots of "sugar free" food including snacks, cookies, etc. but you may find your blood sugar rises anyway. It may act more slowly or not give you a great spike like sugar does, but your body may react in a similar way as if you'd eaten sugar . Mine does. Someone gave me "sugar free" chocolate and I might as well have eaten the real thing, so I don't buy anything with those sugar alcohols anymore.
Hang in there.
