OK IM 14 AND HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SEVERE DEPRESSION I DONT KNOW WHY I HAVE IT BUT I DO MY PARENTS THINK ITS MOSTLY CAUSE OF ME MOVING TO A NEW SCHOOL AND IT IS BUT THEY THINK IM CHOOSING TO BE DEPRESSED WHICH IM NOT I FEEL LIKE AT TIMES I CANT HELP IT ESPECIALLY CAUSE I COULD BE HAPPY AND THEN SAD THE NEXT MINUTE HOW DO I EXPLAIN TO THEM I CANT CHOOSE HOW I WANT TO FEEL AND ITS NOT MY FAULT THAT I HAVE DEPRESSION?
I think that if you sound sincere and talk to them at a quiet time that they will understand where you are coming from. I have been there when I was a teenager and I have always found that when I talked to my parents in this way that they took me more seriously. If you don't get anywhere with that, I would definitely talk to a doctor or school nurse. Wishing you well.

If it were as simple as a choice, none of us would choose depression. Often life's changes can bring on depression and hopefully you will adjust to your new school and find the support that you need through your parents, new friends, and teachers to help you through this difficult time. My prayers are with you that this is a temporary outlook on life and you will be able to find your way out of the darkness you feel now. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.
We can respond to irritation with a smile instead of scowl, or by giving warm praise instead of icy indifference. By our being understanding instead of abrupt, others, in turn, may decide to hold on a little longer rather than to give way. Love, patience, and meekness can be just as contagious as rudeness and crudeness.

Hi Eddie. I remember being 14 and moving to a new town and school and I suffered from depression also. I thought it would be forever. Just know Eddie that things will get better. You will make new friends and adjust. In the meantime, post here or keep a journal or whatever helps for you. Take care and keep us informed on how you're doing

Welcome Eddie!!
If talking to your parents doesn't help, ask the doctor to explain to them that this is not something you can just turn on and turn off. I'm sure he/she (the doctor) would be happy to help your parents understand. He may even be able to suggest some resources.
Keep us posted.
Blessings!
