Ileostomy reconnection

After 11 months with an ileostomy, followed by chemo, radiation, etc., reconnection surgery was 3 weeks ago. Any hints on what to eat to eliminate diarhea? Using lots of A&D ointment!!! Rear end is sore! Can't get too far from bathroom at this point. Any ideas how long this bowel issue will last?
i wish i could help.
i sure hope you will get better soon.

Last December my large intestine puncture after 12 years of CD, I spent 9 months with an ileostomy and last October I had reconnective surgery.

I still go to the bathroom some 8 times a day, and I'm using Desitin and Baby wipes every time I'm home. From October to today, there has been a slow but progressive "embetterment" of the situation".

My dietist reccomended soluble fiber found in rice, and rice water, also I'm taking an Acidophilus supplement and Metamucil 3 times a day.

The consistency also dependes on what I've been eating for the day, my dietist have told me that chocolate and home-fried foods help slow the digestion. High-sugar eats and sodas are a no-no.

There're also some medication available, I'm not taking any of them but you may ask a doctor for them.

here are some links, IMHO ostomy diets are applicable to reconnections, since you still have and internal pouch until you body starts to collect water from the pouch.

hope it helps, always get a doctor's advice before trying anything.

I have a temporary illeostomy and many people have recommended apple sauce, mashed potatoes, and apple pectin as well (found at health food stores). High sugar foods pulls water into the gut so stay away from those if possible. Also talk with your doctor about using fiber (metamucil) and immodium or lomotil before taking them to make sure they are the right solution at the right time.

I will be put back together in February!

Good luck!

 Hi Tracie,
Congradulations on getting reversed. When I had my reveresal surg. last year, I took a lot of lomotil *Imodium A-d caplets, try staying away from high fiber foods, & spicy foods for awhile. Peanutbutter, crackers, bananas, white bread may help firm bm.s. It's going to take some time to get readjusted ,but the end result will be worth it ! Ask your GI if he/she would recommend Citricel this may help firm stool as well.
Good luck!
