I am so thankful and rejoicing.......Tyler has had his resection and intestinal letdown Friday. The Dr. said everything went great and there were no surprises. He was able to do it all laproscopically. The surgery took about 4 hours which the dr. said it took little longer because of where the perforation in his terminal ileum it had literally turned to cement and plaster itself to his abdomen wall and had to be chipped away, but all went successfully. He removed 10 to 12 inches of his intestine from where the Illeostomy was to the secum and both ends looked very healthy where they were connected and the disease seemed to be all contained in the area that was removed. Surgery was at 12:30 pm and by 7:30 he was getting up to go pee. Today he was getting around by himself (of course with the help of the wonderful drug, morphine). The only thing he has been complaining about is that awful tube in his nose. Dr. said he would remove that as soon as he started passing gas......which shouldn’t be a problem of his....lol. His incisions look really good and he is so excited to have this surgery over with and to be bag less.

Update.....Sunday they removed the tube from his nose. Monday He passed his gas...lol and the dr. started him on clear liquids and he had his first bowel movement. The Dr. said Tues. he can have food and maybe even get to come home.....isnt that awesome. Surgery on Friday and possible coming home on Tuesday.....God is soooo Good.
Hi I have a couple of questions, can anyone tell me what the xray is called that you have to make sure your bowel is not leaking (before an ileostomy reversal) and what to expect when i go in for it, the lady that rang was unsure if i had to fast of what ? I then hopefully will go in for an ileostomy reversal, I keep hearing a lot of horror stories about incontinence and pain, can anyone tell me a little of what to expect, i understand everyone is different, maybe I am just looking for reassurance, I have had my ileo for 5 months and am hoping to have it reversed before Christmas, but with the health cuts I am concerned I will be put on a waiting list and have to wait years, anyway lets be positive and say it is done by Dec 2011, can anyone give me a little of what to expect and is it harder if you have to have the ileo longer ? Diagnosed June 2011 Malignant Solitary fibrous tumor, operation to remove it, Hysterectomy, resection of large bowel, ileostomy, radiation treatment, out look If I live I am okay if I don't i am not, the tumor is very rare and so they just don't know..but I am happy and well albeit with some challenges.

Wife of 64 yr old male suffered with UC & in May 06 had a severe flare & hospitalized 6 days...various prednisone treatments leading to steroid dependence and osteopenia, 12 asacol, 200 mg Imuran, failed remicade infusions Jan-May 2010 Dependence on pain meds. Made decision 6/10 to have surgery which was on 12/17/10 (total proctocolectomy & ileostomy - unable to have the j-pouch) & now pain free

DX Colonic dysmotility.
July 2011 - Permanent end Ileostomy after begging surgeon to put it back
