Amanda - I feel for you. This condition isn't fun, is it?! I am trying to lose weight THINKING that being overweight is the problem. If you have lost 30 pounds and still have problems, then I am wondering if weight loss will help me.
I have had acid reflux for at least 6-8 years. Nothing seems to help and I think it is getting worse. I just finished 2 weeks of Protonix and I couldn't tell that it helped one bit. I've taken Pepto Bismol, Tums, Pepcid AC, Maalox, Rolaids. You name it, and I've taken it.
I've had two endoscopies and the doctor says my stomach is inflamed and that I have "gastritis". I never have food come up and I never belch a sour stomach. However, I have a very acid feeling in the back of my throat and bad breath. Sometimes my esophagus feels raw.
I am afraid of the long term implications of this disease. Am sure most sufferers are very concerned as I am.
I just keep trying to live with it. I have never smoked or drank alcohol. I have given up Coke and Pepsi, but I can't really tell much difference.
I think this is all in the genes and DNA. One thing for sure, I know it isn't in my head.
Dear RCocker
Are you based in the uk?
As ive never heard of these brands of Yoghurt!!
Does it have to be fresh Goats yoghurt?
Thansk Lee
Eat yogurt from a health food store (Nancy's, Brown Cow, Cacade, Redwood Farms - NOT DANNON). Works 100% of the time and in minutes after eating. You might have to eat it almost every day for the rest of your life.
I am also new here, but not to GERD. I been on different meds for approx. 5 yrs, but I still sometimes experience problems. I had an Endoscopy about 6 mo. ago to discover that I had H Pylori which obviously is another problem. It seems to go hand and hand with the Reflux, so you may want to seriously have one done....Things that might be helpful are eating apples(I prefer green) Raw honey(teasp) and Apple Vinegar(teasp).. But get more info on all prior too using them...And, of course, Check with your Dr. as usual. I never tried yogurt, so have nothing to compare it with.
Good Luck! And, I hope you feel better soon.
Searchin, is right in indicating that we all should be concerned about this problem. I personally believe that other problems are associated. I also believe that it's genetically connected.
Good luck! I hope you feel better, Don't give up hope!
