Hello everyone,
Ive not posted for awhile as theres been a lot going on. Im waiting for my 2nd hospital appointment to come because my ibs is not getting better or more manageable no matter what the doc tries. 2 Wks ago I was perscribed painkillers because a side-effect is they stop diarrohea...which is the worst part of my ibs, not because I had much pain, because I didnt.
I do not take the tablets much because my symptoms changed before I really started on them...my stool is now sometimes D sometimes semi-solid, either way i get a lot of pain when i go to the loo, i bleed a lot too. Ive noticed that about 20 mins after I eat I get the same pain, i just had a milkshake this morning and i got the pain too! Im booked in for a telephone consultation with my doc tomorrow, I just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same...also what tests are they likely to do next?? I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy the first time.
Please help.
Anns
Oh and I also feel nauseus a lot too.
Hello anna, I am usually from the Uc board but I couldn't help but notice your post. Have you had a colonoscopy yet to rule out Ulcerative Colitis? Or have you considered that it may be a possibility? We have several members on our Uc forum that have had IBS only to find out that it's Uc.

Hi Anns,
What were the results from your sigmoidoscopy? You say you are having blood, this is not a symptom of IBS but the blood could be coming from hemmrhoids. You can usually determine that by the color, bright red usually means hemmies but you need to get it checked out just in case. Did they rule out diverticulosis? This can cause bleeding also and severe lower left pain (sigmoid colon is the most common place for diverticulosis) and it can hurt from any straining. Have you also been tested for food allergies? I noticed that you said that you started getting pains after a milkshake, does that usually happen with most dairy or lactose products for you? Sorry for all the questions. Let us know how your consultation goes.

Hi,
The sigmoidoscopy was clear. The blood is bright red, feels like there may be a tear or something.
Ive tried cutting absolutely everything out my diet but still get ibs. The pain is with any food or drink, it doesnt last very long and it is not 'normal' ibs pain, but in a different area, higher up. What is ulcerative colitis? What are the symptoms?

hi
I've known for some months I had ibs but have only gone to see the doctor a few days ago, he confirmed that i did have this condition. I have changed my diet cut out all diary food, wheat etc but I still get stomache cramps and lower back pain. I'm not sure what else I should cut out of my diet, I would be grateful for some suggestions please.

Hi Gem, welcome to the site! (It might be a good idea for you to start a new thread introducing yourself.)
First off I would say cut out as much fat as you can. No grease or fried anything. Secondly, cut out caffeine. And lastly, cut out alcohol. Those are the top 3 (in my opinion and experience) IBS triggers.
You can try cutting out spicey food too and also avoid raw veggies and fruits. Anything raw is hard on the gut to digest.
Again, welcome. I hope you find HealingWell as helpful as all of us here have.
