When is interferon treatment started? After initial diagnosis or later? After treatment is started is work not recommended due to fatigue and/or other symptoms?

It depends on your disease status. It is only recommended for those with active hepatitis (high viral load and high liver enzyme levels). Interferon acts to reduce the viral load and thereby decrease the inflammation of the liver. So it is not relevant giving it to those who have normal viral loads and normal liver enzyme levels.
At the start of treatment, it is usually recommended that the patient takes some time off work.
