Is there any hope with Gerd?

Im having all the tests done right now,well this month to see if i can have the surgery.Than I hear from my G.I the Nissen lasts 5-7 year's and your back to square one.I have tight throat feeling right now,and its been like that for a month,I get bad flareups alot,and I eat very Bland diet..
 
This being said im 27 and have had Gerd,for 4 1/2 years was scoped in 04,but they gotta do it again for the surgey i guess..What is the future ppi's for life?This is a terribble disease I eat the same foods day in day out.i want my life back,anyone relate?

wow....you would think the surgery would fix it for good
i have had this 2 years and go on and off the ppis but never truly get better
i feel my best the day after i go off meds cold turkey but by the next day i am in agony....i can make no sense out of any of it

has the gerd caused you any damage...like precancerous stuff or anything
i know just the gerd itself is unbearable

i truly think antibiotics and meds caused this in me and my body needs to find a way to get back to the way it was before the meds...i am trying holistic stuff like herbs along with the nexium

Have you been tested for food allergies? If your diet is the same and you still have alot of problems I would get checked for them, also maybe keep a food diary and what makes you worse. I also am getting the tests done right now to see if I need surgery. I really dont want to go that route, I've heard a lot of bad things about the Nissen. I am going to my drs next week to ask her about food allergies and maybe heavy metal poisoning..I think my anxiety, gerd, candida, and depression could be caused from this.

I have anxiety to,in fact ts so bad I cant work.Besides that Gerd I eat bland and very healthy and still get heartburn,and feel like crap way to often.So take meds for life that work for me just a little bit,or look into surgery by a qualified suergeon and maybe that might work..I cant belive they haven't founf better meds or surgery's for this,the nissen has been done since 51???They got us on the back burner thats for sure..

They have done this surgery since 1951? That is so unbelievable. And it still only lasts a few years? Gotta be a better option somewhere.

I have had the Nissan Wrap about 2 years ago. I had no complications with it. In fact, it was the easiest surgery I have ever had. AND, I have had a bunch. I was never told it would only last so many hears. I am going to ask my gastro dr. about that. I do still have to take the nexium, but with the list of medis that I am on, I need the nexium. I do have a lot more gas, but the surgeon told me that would be a side effect of the surgery. He sure didn't lie about that. I guss my only problem that I notieced after the surgery, but I can't say it is from the surgery, is that my muscles, diaghram (sp) feels like it is crawing and knotting up. It is a really painful experience, but like I said I can't say it is from the surgery. I have been told I have chronditis in my ribs. Which it probably is. I can cough and break a rib.

My reason for surgery was that my stomach aspirated into my lungs. Therfore 3-4 years to get my lungs healed, and then the surgery for the stomach. My lungs are just about back to normal, but the long term effects of the steroids for the lungs have destropyed the rest of me. Good luck. J

 I also have COPD, Addisons Disease, Osterarthritis, Osterporosis, Acid Reflux (GERD).Depression, (why I have depression, I'll never know). And just all over feel like crap.
