Diagnosed with epilepsy and ulcerative colitis in 1979,
I seem to have a pretty big problem with this also. It can be my short term or my long term. I usually tell people I have no term memory loss. I forget just about everything. In the middle of a conversation I will completely forget what I am talking about. People tend to think it's just a lack of attention or something. It's become a running joke amongst my circle of friends. At first they would all get mad because I didn't remember. Now they are beginning to understand a bit more. My fiancee used to be very disappointed, because he thought I just didn't care that much.
As a little example, I just got back from work. One of the last things I do is turn off all of the TVs in the place. I went to use the restroom and when I came out, all of the TVs were off. I looked at one of my co-workers and thanked them for assisting me. She looked at me kind of funny before saying "Amanda, you turned them all off before you used the restroom." I debated with her for about 10 minutes, thinking she was just messing with me. I still don't remember doing it.
The main point to this is that, yes, there are definitely problems with my memory too and I thank you for bringing it up, because it helps me know that I'm not the only one.
I wish everyone a happy day!
Peace, Love and Happiness
AmandaJane-
Funny that you say that you "debated with her" about it! I just have a good ol' argument with my husband!! Well, sometimes when I have a conversation with my husband about something, he will say, " remember when you said etc, etc." and I will get so mad at him because I am sure that I did not say that. Sometimes my two kids are standing right there and they will say, " But Mom, we remember when you did say that - we heard you say that too." And then I get angry at them too. I think to myself, " They must all be mad! How could they think I said that, when I KNOW I didn't!"
I know it's just me and not them. It's hard for me to accept that I have these short-term memory problems. Am I supposed to carry around a little notebook? What do other people do?
Maybe I should carry a little voice recorder!

OK, so I just thought of a story that my Dad told me when I was a little girl. I would be whining that I didn't want to eat my peas or something like that, and he always had a story with a moral to tell me, so here is one. The only reason I thought of it is since we are on the subject of getting lost...
it goes something like this... There once was a spoiled Prince that lived in a castle. He had always lived in the kingdom and had never ventured out and therefore yearned to go out and see the world. So, he told his parents, the King and Queen, " Father, Mother, It is time that I now go out into the world and see great things. I would like to experience the world and explore. I will leave in the morning." So, his parents reluctantly said goodbye to him and wished him well. His father, who was very wise, said to him," Remember to be kind to everyone you meet." Now, the Prince, who was not only young, but very spoiled, had this idea that he was so high and mighty that everywhere he went people would bow down to him and do as he said. So, in the morning, he got on his horse and rode out of the castle with some provisions of food and water. As he rode out of the kingdom, the peasants bowed to him, and he stobbishly sat on his horse nodding to all the people as he rode by. He enjoyed every minute of all the attention. He was used to getting his way and having everyone at his beck and call. Sometimes just for the fun of it, he would kick or push the peasants to the ground!
When he got out of the kingdom and rode into the forest, he realized that he was indeed on a road that was completely new to him. He kept riding and soon was lost. He tried to retrace his steps but the more he tried the more lost he became. Some robbers were waiting in the bushes and ambushed him, taking everything he owned, even his food. " I command you to stop and give me my possessions!" he cried out in vain. He had never been treated like that before. Night fell and he was alone. Many days passed and he was starving. He came upon a little house and a little peasant lived in the house. He said, " Please give me some food, I am so hungry!" So, the peasant, seeing it was the Prince, said, "Oh, My Goodness! Your Highness, all I have are some humble little potatoes..." The Prince didn't care - he was famished and ate them. They were the best potatoes he had ever eaten! So, the peasant fed him until he was feeling strong again.
Since the peasant knew every inch of the forest, he told the Prince exactly which path to take to get back to the castle. And which one to stay away from to avoid the robbers. The Prince was so grateful to the peasant, he promised to come back to get him to have him live in the castle and give him fine clothes, good food and a nice bed. The peasant said, " OH, thank you, your Highness, but I am just a peasant. I am happy right here and I do not need such things. But thank you anyway."
So, the Prince went back to the castle. On his way back, as he entered the kingdom, the prince bowed down to each of the peasants he met! From that day on, he treated the people with as much compassion as his father.
Moral of the story: If you don't eat your peas, your father will try to teach you a lot of lessons about life. Glenda

I got real upset with a customer at work last night because he walked in and said let me get my Friday special. I'm a bartender, the special on Fridays is Long Island Iced Tea. I made the guy a Long Island. He grabs me after a minute and questioned why I didn't give him HIS special. He said "You know that on Fridays I come in and get a shot and a beer". I got real angry
because I didn't remember that and because I have a ton of people to remember things for. I grabbed the shot and the beer and gave it to him. After I cooled off for a minute I went back to him and apologized. "I'm sorry I got so frustrated earlier
. You've got to understand that I have a medical condition which prevents me from remembering everything."
I also had a situation last night where one of my waitresses smacked me after I did something nice, so I thought. It wasn't a real hard smack, just a backhand to the arm, but I became furious and backhanded her right back. The other waitress was right there and brought us back to the moment, saying that she had a bunch of people in the back and needed drinks, so it ended there. There was a definite tension throughout the rest of the night. I am a big advocate of solving the problem while it's still fresh, but after the public has gone. This girl wouldn't give me the respect of even listening to me at the end of the night. she was on her phone and when asked to give me a minute to talk to her, she told the person on the other line to hold on and then looked at me and said what do you want. I can't repeat here what I said to her, but it wasn't pretty.
I told my manager that she's lucky I maintained my emotional base, because I was ready to explode on this girl. That's all I wanted to tell her at the end, was that, unfortunately I don't always have full control of my emotions and she need not EVER lay her hands on me again, because I can't guarantee that I won't hurt her!!!
Thanks for being here so that I can vent this junk out of my head!!!

What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger...my muscles sure are getting big
We can't let the people who don't understand bother us, we can only educate them and emcourage them to open their minds and their hearts to accept the ones who may be a little "different" than them!!!
