Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has heard of a condition where protonix causes your stomach to harden. I had been on protonix for about 2 years when the horrible abdominal pains started.
Saw many doctors and underwent many a test and poking and proding. They even commented on the fact that my stomach was hard and it alarmed many health care professional.
My meds were then changed to nexium 40mg and slow but surely everything went back to normal (well normal as can be with GERD)
Has anyone else been through this.

The only time that I've been on the Protonix was while I was in the hospital, so I really have no stories to tell, as nothing occurred.
Through some reading that I've done tonight, I did see where it may cause a gastritis, and I'm sure that would be very painful and cause a bloating/and hardening of the abdomen. Other than that...perhaps someone else will come along that has been on this med. for a longer period.
I'm sure glad for your sake that they changed your med. and you now sound a lot better!!

I took this one too. Made me feel like I had the flu. I stopped it and now list it as one of my allergies when I go to a new doctor. I don't want to take it again. Sorry you went through that but glad you are feeling better.
