My surgery was last Monday (Jan 23rd). Had horrible reaction to meds (morphine) so was off those by Wednesday...on to Perkacet (?) until Thursday. Used Extra Strength Tylonol until Friday...home Saturday morning on NO pain meds at all. Really have no pain. Is this normal? Doc is shocked...said NONE of his paitients have ever left without heavy prescriptions, sometimes for weeks after. Hmmm.
Anyway, go in on Thursday to have stitches out and first fill. They sure feel weird. You sure know you have plastic bags sewn underneath your skin. Alien. But hopefully all will be well in time. I can even drive now since I have full range of motion with my arms and have from the beginning. But since everyone is telling me to walk, don't run, I will take this week and TRY to rest. I am bored as he__!!!
I also had a mast w/tissue expansion. I never needed heavy pain killers and did not have to take what they sent home with me.
I was able to drive fairly soon too.
My tissue expander felt weird only because it was up so high in the chest area and because the area was numb. The fill appointments were quick and relatively painless. I did have to take extra strength tylenol after the later fills were completed as the area would become sore due to the amount of fluid he injected. But that is all done now and I have had the permenant implant for almost a year now. Glad it is over with, but it really was a not bad experience. Long, but not bad.
It sounds like you are doing very well. Keep it up. But......do take this week to rest. I always overdo because I feel good, but I sometimes have delayed healing because I was to active. Take advantage of the rest time.

Glad your surgery went well! Like Candy said, it was weird getting used to the numbness ( but that is why we are not feeling much pain!) Once I starting getting the fills, the muscles in my chest started to have spasms which were not painful, but rather uncomfortable. My dr. did give me an rx for a muscle relaxer, which also helped me sleep. I remember having more trouble sleepeing than anything else! Make sure you get plenty of rest; even though you are feeling good, your body has been through a lot! Hugs, Frayda
Hi Linda! Congrats on having your surgery behind you and glad to hear that you are doing so well. As others have said, please take it easy. Remember, even though you are feeling great, your body has a lot of healing to do yet. Let your family treat you like a Queen for awhile yet. You deserve it.
I just wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to reach out to someone like me who is/was afraid and give them some peace. I appreciate it very much. You were something I could count on for some answers I wasn't getting anywhere else. Kind of like first-time pregnancy when no one tells you EVERYTHING that will be happening!
Two weeks yesterday and things are really well, although the feeling is all coming back in the breats (or what's left of them!). I'm thinking that's a little early...I don't want feeling for a few more months! But, what I can't change...I deal with.
Atta girl I like your attitude. You will do fine. I had a tram flap but have read many posts by those who had the implants. I know that as they are filling they can be a little tight, but I don't think it is major pain at all. I was amazed that the mastectomy was not more painful than it was. I am going on ten years now and all is well. Hugs MK
