Knee pain right knee

Hoping to get some guidance. I have been having crazy knee pain and tightness in my right knee. I have an appointment in December with my doctor. It really is bothersome in the morning and especially at night. I feel the tightness quite a bit during the day too. It has slowed me down some I am 45 and I know having a bad bunion with osteoarthritis on the right side as well can't be helping. That has been bothering me a great deal lately. Will be seeking surgery for that soon.
My question is if you have osteoarthritis in one joint can it gradually effect other areas? That's what this feels like in my knee arthritis. Its bothersome when trying to sleep and sometimes it feels swollen, and I'm just like what the hell did I do? I dont recall injuring it not recently anyway. I tore my acl years ago on that knee and have banged it a couple of times here and there. I am clumsy. Just concerned because I am on my feet quiet a bit raising chickens so a bum knee would really effect this.
I know we arent doctors just wanting to know if osteoarthritis can effect other joints when you have it say in your toes or anywhere really.
OA is the most common form arthritis that affects millions of people, wear & tear & it's part of the aging process too. Even an injury from many years ago can trigger OA. Some folks can get it at a early age.

It tends affect the spine, hands, knees & feet more frequently. What are you trying OTC to relieve some of your symptoms? Now a days we have so many OTC options from analgesics to things like Salon Pas as an example that has a little bit of lidocaine to help ease the pain. Have you tried moist heat? We have to keep moving our joints as much as we can.

December sounds like a long wait to see your dr. is this your pcp? In the meantime I would try some OTC things until you get in with your dr. Voltaren topical gel is a good prescription medication. Your dr can do some xrays to see what is going on. I hope you can get some relief.

I had to much going on this month. I figured the first part of December would be good in hope that it would feel better. Right now I take advil as needed. I have used tiger balm when I need to. I have been known to ice it at night. I elevate it through the day. It feels good when I soak it in a hot bath, but is stiff and tight again after i have been off my feet some in the evening. I stay moving a lot throughout the day. I dont like even walking through walmart by the time i am done shopping my toe and knee hurt. Most nights I am limping around. It's just odd.
Why not try some moist heat on your knee in the evenings. I often wet a hand towel & nuke it in the microwave for a few seconds. You have to be careful because it will get hot. Moist heat goes deeper.

@straydog, I recently had extreme pain/stiffness in knee. Had to get an MRI-turns out have a torn medial meniscus. The ortho PA said arthritis can cause these-I had no injury beforehand. I'm 66 and an RN. Have been on short term disability. Their recommendation: a cortisone injection and physical therapy for six weeks. Arthroscopic surgery is not first line, and may not help per the PA. PA did standing knee xray in office-showed the degenerative arthritis in both knees-worse on knee w/tear. Could see the space where cartilege has worn away! I wouldn't ignore, go to Dr for answer/treatment. Good luck!
BTW-I too had to wait weeks for an ortho appt-crazy! I believe only an MRI can show tears. Love Salon Pas for muscle pain!
An MRI is certainly needed. I just had one 2 weeks ago on my knee for the same thing you are describing. I must have lost 60% of my range of motion and you could visibly see the swelling. Incredible pain at night trying to sleep and my left hip started giving out due to favoring my right side. My results showed fluid in the knee, arthritis and meniscus tear. I receieved a Cortizone shot and they drained my knee. After 1 week it feels 90% better and I'm sleeping much better. Without the MRI there's not much that can be seen and Doctors don't want to start any treatment without knowing what they are treating.
Hello,

Have you tried collagen and/or hyaluronic acid? When we get older our body produces less those products.
