Hi, I am new here. I just wanted to ask some questions. I have been on lamictal for several months. I am now trying to get pregnant and I have having some problems with my body. Before I started lamictal, everything was fine. I have contacted my doctor twice and left messages to speak with her about getting off the medications for now and throughout my pregnancy when it happens. She has not returned my calls so I have taken it upon myself to stop this medication. The reason I started it was because I had PMS and would get mad over silly things. She diagnosed me with bipolar. I was shocked. No one who knows me thinks I am bipolar. Anyhoo... My question is has anyone stopped this medication one pill at a time before? I used to take 4 a day which equals 100 mil. For a week and a half I have only taken 3 pills and starting 2 nights ago, I lowered it to 2 pills.

I am a little upset that my doctor hasn't called me back. Seems she doesn't care. I am just worried about having seizures stopping this medication. I never have had them before but I just don't know.
 
Any advise?

I've never been on lamictal so I really can't help you on that. I'm sure someone will be on shortly that will be able to answer your question. I am concerned though, that this doctor refuses to return your calls. Is this a pdoc or a GP? I would certainly consult a new physican if you can get no response from this one. Preferably before making any med adjustments. It's unwise to discontinue a med without knowing the risks. I hope she calls back soon.

I totally agree with Ellie; any pdoc, esp one that dxd you with bipolar and doesn't return calls is horrid!  

It is NEVER smart to just quit taking meds, and Lamictal is one of them.  Always check with your doctor before discontinuing medication.  You are also running the risk of depression, as it has an antidepressant effect, too.

Thank you psychnurse. I am calling the doctor again and I left another message with the receptionist for the 3rd time. Hopefully she will call me back. I am starting to think she doesn't care about her patients?!?!

Could you offer any advise on my situation? Maybe on how to stop the medication.

I want to thank all of you for listening to me and helping me out. I actually spoke with my pharmacist and the way I started taking this medication was 1 pill daily for 3 days, 2 pills daily for 3 days, 3 pills daily for 3 days and then 2 pills twice daily. I was told that I may quit taking the medications the same way that I started them. So if my doctor doesn't call me back I will do it this way and pray.

If there is still any advise, I would love it all.

This forum is great and once again I greatly appreciate all the help.
