Hi Gang, Marty here from the UC board. I just popped over to see if you can advise me on some crazy symptoms i'm having. I've been flaring really bad with joint pains, lumps on the backs of my hands and real bad burning in almost every joint in my body. My wrists are swollen and my ankles. But i'm really concerned because this burning pain has spread to the back of my skull and top of my head. My hearing seems to be getting a bit dodgy a times too.Could this all be coming from inflammation in my bones maybe. I would really appreciate any input, because i don't want to go to the ER if this is just part of Arthritis. My doc is reffering me to a rheumatologist, the sooner the better. Thanks Gang

hi sorry to hear you dont feel well, how long this been going on with the burning and joint pain? and is there any fevers?
sometimes the UC can be connected to arthrtis and visa versa. do you have any people you been around who has been sick with strep or staph?
any previous arthritis in your back or  hands? are you on predisone? wish i could help

9-02 crash w/ C-5-6-7 anterior/posterior fusion in neck w/11 screws and 4 metal plates. multilevel HNP at T & L section. FMS, PA in dec 05. on SSDI after 2.5 yr wait. sezuires, CTS, IBS ( C & D). norco, xanax, predisone shots. i dont know what else is wrong with me and neither does anyone else!!!

Yeah i've been really sick since August last year. I've lost over 100lbs in weight.I have UC but i'm getting more tests to rule out Crohns and cancer but i haven't had any results.I had small bowel series last week and i'm due for a catscan next week.But i've been having burning in my hips and back since August.My arms and wrists have just started to burn. I noticed a hard lump on back of my right hand then my left hand. Then started getting swelling around wrists. Showed my doc who started me on glucosime sulphate. I've been off pred since sept.I'm also having bad spasms and twitches all over my body which get worse at night. My feet always feel as though they are freezing and my hands get like this a lot too. But this burning in my skull is doing my head in.I seem to be very stiff around my neck so i suppose it could be coming from th nerves in my skull going crazy. I also feel as though the joints in my face are inflamed too.I took some Voltorol to ease the inflamation but don't know if they are up to much.

     Only this week i have had fevers and just can't get out of my bed with tiredness. I wake at 8 and i'm looking to go back to bed at 10am, and i really be exhausted i'm not lazy at all. Makes a change from my first 4/5 months being sick when i couldn't sleep.

hello, I am pretty new to this site but from reading your email about the burning sensations and joint swelling sounds alot like I am expriencing and I have just been diagnosed w/rhuematoid arthritis...hope you find some relief

hey Marty,

when i read your post, it was screaming "NEUROLOGICAL" to me for some reason. gut instinct? maybe.  but the fever, spasms & twitches and  spreading of the burning concerns me.

when can you see a doc? i would really want to rule out any viral thing going on causing this burning feeling and extreme fatigue.

oh my...well please, if you still have a fever see someone about it, even if it must be the ER. to at least get some labs done to be on the safe side.

Meds: Humira 40mg every 4 days; pred; Pentasa; Imuran; dilaudid; diazepam; Avinza 30mg; MiraLax & too many others.

Well my doc thinks anxiety is the reason for the burning on the skull and the spasms, but says that she reckons i might have RA but wouldn't say for sure. Does anyone here get rashes on their arms when their joints are going crazy. I've noticed like a prickly rash from my elbow to my wrist. I also have little sacks of fluid under the skin on my hands, is this just the inflammation.Plus my skin has got really loose, and my little finger is starting to shape itself into a boomerang!!!!

Man keep a log of all of this!  Every little thing is important when presenting a case to a doc.
Wow...I never heard of the "anxiety causing burning" theory!  I know that when a person spikes in blood pressure, they can become very hot, flushed, or "feel burning like".  I wonder if that's what the doc is getting at? 
 
Psoriatic arthritis can manifest as skin pustules and little oddities!  Kinda like blister lookin' sacs?

Well i've to go to see the rheumy soon and i'm getin a catscan soon. So maybe her theories may be proved wrong or right. Thanks for asking about me, my temp seems a lot better this week but these joint pains can be quite intense can't they. I'm aching too on my left shoulder joint, i thought it was my heart to start with but its the same pain i'm having in my joints so its not really bothering me.
Those sacs that you mention sound similar to ehat i have. Its like blisters above the muscles but below the skin, so you may be right. I hope you don't mind me calling over here, but i don't like posting about Arthritis issues on the UC forum if you know what i mean. Because at the minute its the joint pain thats doing my head in more than the UC.
I do keep a food diary, which i also use to write all my different crazy symptoms. I'm going to see my consultant on the 15TH May for the results of all my tests and i hope to have gathered enough in my diary so he can have a proper look at what is going on with me. Sounds like i'm a hypocondriac but i don't care, i'd do anything to get back to my oldself.

listen, i don't know anything about your history, I'm totally new to this forum, but your description of your situation is terrifying. you should not have to live like this!
i just got taken of Lialda for example, because of sever joint pain. i have taking this medicine since summer 06 and been very well and super happy with it. this fall i went down hill, i had so much pain in my chest muscles, shoulder, hands, elbows. it was a direct problem to brush my teeth or get dressed. hips knees were so sore. i didn't have any swelling of joints like you describe but the strong neck pain was bothering my hearing it felt.
i thought for this was all work/stress related but when i finally piped up to my dear doctor, he told me this is a side effect, he simply took me of the Lialda and I'm like new again!! go back to your doctor and make sure he reads behind/between the lines on your prescriptions. my doctor check if my wrist are swollen at every visit that is part of uc.
i hope you get better real soon!!!
