My Dad was just diagnosed with PD this week. We have since learned that loss of smell is one symptom of PD. He lost his back about nine years ago. His tremors in his legs began about three years ago. Has anyone ever regained their sense of smell after beginning these medicines/treatments? This is one thing that has always bothered Daddy, missing smell of coffee, bacon frying or even to know if he has put too much cologne on. So with everything going on it would be welcome news if by chance his sense of smell could come back.
By the way..Daddy had questioned this issue for years. And has had CT scans done and xrays He was never told, hey this is a symptom of PD.
Dsastacks I am sorry your F ather has PD. What age is he? My husband had many symptoms for 15 years, and even when the drs were asked specifically, no diag. was given until 1998. The loss of smell was an early indicator which has been followed years later by much loss of taste. We also went through years of CT, MRI, etc. I have never read of these senses returning, but who knows...everyone if different.
He is fortunate to have you and I can tell from the tone of your post that you will encourage your Father on this new challenge.

Daddy has missed his sense of smell for years. And I never really understood. I just thought if it did come back that would be one plus in his corner. I dont guess it would have helped much if we knew back then it was a early symptom of PD. Right now it seems that the past two days have been in time warp speed and we are living someone else's life. To me his symptoms are more noticeable, I'm hoping its because he was officially just diagnosed and I'm looking constantly at him.
As far as Daddy being fortunate to have me...its strictly the other way around for myself brother and sister. I would take his place in a second. I wish I had a magic wand.
