LTD Question

Diseases & Conditions Rheumatoid Arthritis

I have been diagnosed with RA - I turned up negative by RA slide but had a very high Anti-CCP rate.  Also, have Fibromyalgia and Degenerative Disc Disease.  I'm on Enbrel and Metrotrexate.  I was approved for SSDI benefits and LTD but my LTD carrier is giving me a real hard time.  Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi Vane - Welcome to HW.... may I ask, what is LTD?

Diagnosed January 2005 - Psoriatic Arthritis/Dactylitis/Spondylitis 
   -Currently taking 50mg shot weekly of Enbrel
 
Diagnosed May 1998 - Graves Disease
   -Complete Thyroidectomy September 1998 - While 11 weeks pregnant
 
Other Complications - GERD/Scoliosis/Hiatal Hernia

Ducky, that is Long Term disability, something we do not have here unless we pay for it through a company we work for. course I am only assuming and you know what that means.....

Welcome Vane. Congrats on getting the SSDI benefits approved. I have heard of long term disability companies making it difficult to recieve your claim. Keep looking on the web, maybe google your problem and see if you can find results with info on the topic. You might also want to try searching w/your insurance company's name inparticular.

Did you purchase this thru employment? If so, you might also want to contact HR and discuss the problems they are giving you. HR might be familiar w/their business and know if this has been a problem in the past.  I'm sorry they are giving you a hassle.

Yes, Welcome vane and sorry I kinda overlooked welcoming you this AM, I have no scuse...just kinda one track minded I guess. Hope Camama's advice will help, she gave some good ideas.

Hi Vane,

Your problem w/LTD folks is not uncommon at all. Most of these companies drag their, pass your file around to different people to handle. In the meantime, one tells you they need this from the dr and when you get it and are ready to send it, someone else has your file and of course that person needs something els too. Its a vicious circle.

As with most companies they require folks to apply for SSD, why, because it saves them money. When peeps get their SSD approved as in your case, LTD does not have to pay  you the full benefit. For instance, lets say your LTD is $1,800.00 a month and SS pays you $1,400.00, all the LTD folks have to pay is the $400.00 to make up the difference. Its a crock of sh** if you ask me.

UNUM which is big LTD company was exposed this past year and fined for their handling practices. They would delay, delay, paying the person their benefits holding out to see if the person got approved for SS or not. They would do the run around of different peeps handling a person's claim and each new person would ask that you obtain more info, just kept passing the file around, stalling.

If your company is not paying you your benefits, please look up the State Board of Insurance for your state and contact them to file a complaint. Unless us little people keep nipping at their heels, they can screw us around all they want.

By the way, it was a very high up ex-employee that blew the whistle on UNUM. They were told to deny claims first, then if a person got the info needed, rather than pay up, keep passing the file around.
