Lump in Throat- GERD information

Happy2behere,

What is "dh"?  It is rare for BE to turn into C?  I didn't realize that.

I have gastritis (an extreme case), and I heard that it can turn into stomach C. so I hope that this is also rare for this to happen.

I will also try not to think about it too much! :)  We must enjoy life. :)

I'm sorry, "dh"= dear husband. Only 10% of BE will go to C. And I believe, there are three levels of C so there is time to do something about it when caught early. This is why they will give me a test in one year from now. If nothing changes, it is safe to get tested every three years going forward.

I do not know anything about gastritis although was told I have a mild, chronic type.
You may be suffering from Anxiety due to what has happened in your life recently. I know I will get a lump in my throat at times and I have always been told it is due to being anxious. I also have Acid Reflux (never had one test done) and have been on Nexium for almost a year. I don't get heartburn, but I get the feeling as if I have to burp.

JHP, thank you for your post.  I thought that the lump was anxiety.  But, in my case, it really might be acid.

hi, i am new to this forum...i want to tell my story and see if anyone can help...in november i started having a lot of dental work done. i had to wear temporary dental work for about 5 weeks. towards the end of the dental work, i noticed a lump in my throat. i mentioned it to my dentist and even asked the dentist to look down my throat to see if he could see anything..nothing. mid-november i went to my regular dr. he gave me antibiotics and pednisone. after 2 weeks on the meds, no change.

i saw him again and he read me the riot act that beccause i waas a "chronic tobacco abuser" the meds had not worked and he would give me a stronger antibiotic. i got  augmenten (sp) - after two weeks, no change.

sent back to drs office and saw a different doctor. went and got soft tissue x-rays and a cbc panel. results showed nothing. made appt with ent.

went to ent,,she put the thing through my nose to look at my throat. gave me an iv (steroids and antibiotics in the office and said i had Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) from the dental work. gave me rx'es for antibiotic and flagyl. after 8 day, no change. i called the office and another ent called in new meds, another antibiotic, more flagyl, pepto-bismol tablets and prilosec. after three weeks, no change.

returned to ent office today...she wants me to take 80 ml of prilosec a day. she stands by the h. pylori theory. but added gerd something to my chart today.

please note. the lump is real. i can feel it all the time.  less in the early morning.

i have NEVER had stomache acid, heartburn, etc. i have never taken a tums in my life and i am almost 60 years old.

i am a smoker.have been for about 35 years.

my stomache has been alittle on the blitz because of all the meds, but nothing i think other than that.

i don't think i could have major stomache acid and not know or feel something.

i am to go back to the dr in 6 weeks.

i don't drink soft drinks. i do drink coffee and tea.

no bad taste in my mouth.

no problem eating anything i want. had mexican last night, no issues.

i don't have gas, stomache aches, etc.

no fever, that i have noticed.

ni issues sleeping, no problem breathing. i have had, for years, maybe once a month, post nasel drip in the night,i just keep a spray bottle of cloriseptic (sp)spray on the bedside table, no issue. not a regular thing.

is there a connection between h. pylori and gerd?

i what is in my throat (an infection?) contagious? scared to kiss my husband.

will the lump get bigger? seems to have stayed the same size for the last 4 months

i stay at home and raise small dogs...no stress

any info you have might help me to figure this out..i just cannot believe i have gurd this bad and nothing but the throat lump to show for it. nor that prilesec is a cure for a throat lump.

thanks for your time...

I totally empathize with each one of you and your symptoms. I have recently developed these same symptoms but with an added twist. I have pain in my upper back between my shoulder blades and some slight pain on the left side of my upper body. Very weird!

I've been doing research and it appears this may be a fairly common symptom. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress and feel this has definitely contributed.

I am presently on Prilosec, but will be going to the doctor on Friday.
Good luck, faith.

Please introduce yourself in a new post. We'd love to know more about you.
currently i have the lump, chest pain constantly.. arm pain, and all the signs of a heart attack but its not... ive been turned away and basically booted from the ER because of it. Mine is so bad ive had to drop skol and next work til nissan surgery on sept 28th to fix my les. try getting a couple more tests and go from there'
the worst is the palpitations, but eat plenty of potassium and it will help greatly!! least the gi doc told me.. hang in there, take the meds and go for more testing'

Hi Im 26 yr old male and been suffering from grd for 2 long years now (mainly regular chest pains and fairly minor acid reflux). ive ben on and off ppis for that period, occasionally I have thought the problem seems to be going away but then it comes back just as bad. getting really really down about it as all the medical stuff i seem to be reading says it never goes away. I recently decided to try drastically changing my diet...i never drink caffeine anyway, but have also given up milk, most foods high in carbs and lcohol....i drink acv and camomile, dont eat 3 hrs before going to bed etc...thought it was working for a few weeks but for the last 3 days ive started getting the feling of a lump in my throat, which normally doesnt start till the evening. It feels so bizarre and is really worrying me. Has anyone had this? Will it go away? Am i better to get back on the drugs?

Cheers

Hi All,

I also have this acid reflux/GERD problem and it keeps on coming back.If you do not have any serious medical condition and reflux happens once in a while repeatedly you can try lot of home remedies available on internet.

Most Important thing to consider is how it starts or recurs.

Body has a self balancing mechanism. And most of diseases happen if you ill treat your system consistently with your thoughts and actions.Maybe unconscious thought pattern.

As per ayurveda/tantra/alternative healing and other texts there is a balance between upper moving energy and downward moving energy. For example excretion and digestion is helped my downward moving energy as they push the food down and keeps the solar plexus chakra/navel lint in its original position. If you are the kind who's mostly doing mental work maybe excesive thinking or spiritual by nature, these people have most of the thought patter associated with upward moving energy and tend to get too much in their head so as to create this imbalance ,so they need to ground themselves. Also excessive sexual activity also causes too much downward flow therby afterwards reduces the downward flow and hence upward flow is more. Also flight mode of reaction in case of fearful situation can increase upward flow which will push the food up and not down as it should be.upward flow can cause reflux and anxiety symptoms.

so try getting emotions and thoughts that make you ground, focus in present, try to cultivate a feeling as if you are pusing your solar plexus down/happens when you face your fears and feel in control.after eating try and feel the food going down easily.Anything that would make you have thoughts of getting grounded. It helps me a bit especially in situation i get anxious.

Pls this is just my personal experience do not take for granted and consult a physician in case it is serious.try this as an alternative if symptoms are mild ,recurring.

@buttonsgirl I have the same issue with the throat and I've tried 3 different pills along with nexium twice a day. I get my scope sept 23rd and have had it booked since june or before. ugh cry
Hello my name is donjeola and I too had what felt like a lump in my throat for 10 days and it was so uncomfortable I couldn't eat and lost 9 pounds within a week, I went to several doctors an gastroentorologist,ENT as well as an allergy specialist after 10 visits to the emergency room one of the doctors told me that I had globus pharyngeus or hystericus) and he said it is caused by stress and anxiety,he prescribed me zoloft and xanax and I feel so much better and the lump is gone. I dont know if this is the same thing you have but I would suggest you contact your doctor and ask him to look into it. hope you feel better
Hello to you all!! I am currently experiencing the "lump in throat" feeling and the first doctor I went to put me on z-pack and medrol and this did nothing. I then went to a ENT and they put me a prilosec. I was planning on following all of the guidelines for diet when dealing with GERD. My question is "Is it okay to drink alcohol while on Prilosec". Before you comment and say this will bother your GERD..blah blah blah. I realize that. I plan on following all of the diet regiments but still enjoying a few beers on weekends. My question is will drinking alcohol while taking prilosec bad for me in other ways. Not will it be bad for my GERD but will it be bad on my liver and organs etc..

THanks for the help!!!!
I don't think so, I had a few beers on the weekends for years while on another PPI. You may want to consider drinking rum in water instead of beer. Beer is not only acidic (PH of 4.2 usually) but carbonated and full of carbs. Rum in water is neutral (i measured it with a PH meter and it is around a 7-7.5) has less carbs and is not carbonated. I spent years drinking beer thinking it was better for me than liquor. Nope. I now only drink occasionally. It has been hard.

The lump in throat and chest pain felt through back could be esophageal spasms. I had them for years because I was not following a strict diet. Once I started the diet and went on a high PPI dose they went away. I plan to ween off of the PPI in time once I am done healing.

So you are saying jus water mixed with rum?
If you are going to drink I would drink that. about a shot of rum to 2 shots of water. I like vanilla rum. It is not acidic but it still relaxes the LES muscle which causes reflux so I would recomend that you be careful and not over do it. Stay away from wine and beer. Stay away from mixed drinks that contain soda, or juices as they are acidic mixers. I miss beer too, believe me I used to go to Beer Festivals each year and I have had to give them up. If you are going to drink, please make sure you follow a good diet (ex: Koufman diet). I followed the typical avoid triggers but still had alcohol on the weekends and it was not enough. It led to a pretty bad flare up that I am still healng from 3 months later.

I lost my appetite almost a year ago and went through alot of test and ended with doing and endoscope and was diagnozed with GERD and since then i have been taking nexuim20 once a day and it didnt help and i still have the same feeling of heavy weight in my stomach (upper part) and the same heavy feeling in my throat and it stays with me all day till 5pm and then I start to be normal. this feeling made me very upset and don't know what to do. I lost almost 6KG and dont feel like doing anything or going out with my friends.
Have you been through testing? I am going through it all now. I am also frustrated and I have avoided social situations because I am not drinking alcohol right now and I usually can not eat anything that is offered. It is really hard sometimes. I also lost a lot of weight. There are a few things that help me besides the diet: chewing gum, magnesium, chamomille tea, papaya enzymes and a gluten free diet.

yes i have made all known test (complete blood picture, heliobacter test, liver enzymes and viruses ,abdomen ultrasound, and all of them were normal and before that (last novemebr) i did an endoscopy which say that i have GERD and my doctor said that i dont suffer from acid reflux but i suffer from bile reflux, may be because i have a syrgery years ago to remove my gall bladder but the first question he asled me is (do you drink) and i said yes i drink only bear and occasionally not everyday and now i have more bile in my stomach and he also put me on nexuim20 mg per day but it doesnt help at all and i still suffer every morning from this heavy weight feeling in my upper part of stomach and in my throat and just like you i lost about 6 kg and I dont eat a lot anymore and avoiding social events and most of all i have loose stool with undigested food.
i also heard that honey helps a lot speacially manuka honey and i have been taking it for a long time wothout any results
