smurf  I saw a Dr. today who suggested Lyrica for neurpathic pain and for seizures. Has anyone here been on this? If so, was there weight gain?

I switched to lycria when I went off the lamictol, I put on 10 lbs. I take a low dose a very low dose.
It from the family of nuerontion , I like it better than the nuerontion.

smurf  Do you understand how it is that you put on weight? Was it just automatic, did your appetite become greater or did you just plain old gain weight?

I was on Neurontic for a brief time and always felt almost 'drunk' and kept repeating after myself and so forth...You like Lyrica better than that, how is it better in your mind? Thank you for your replies. It is hard to decide what to do.

Lol : thats why I went off nuerontion, I felt drunk and non stop eating. With lycria I am not drunk ,I guess I just put back the weight I lost from lamictol. Plus it Christmas ,didn't help either. Put the weight stablized. As for my mind I have better memory with lycria than nuerontion. I still at times have to think of the word. But its not so bad as nuerontion.

PS : My husband says I remember what suits me.lol My memory is really fine compared to nuerontin.
I perfer lycria to nuerontion.

smurf  Ah yes, selective memory...I have that, I know its been worse since I began with these meds. I really want to get off of Dialntin but am so confused about trying something else...side effects and all and then not knowing which one will work as well or better...

I didn't care for Lyrica since it was so similar to Neurontin.  I know that with Neurontin I had alot of food cravings and so I put on weight.  With Lyrica I really didn't eat that much more but I still managed to put on about 5 pounds within a month.  That did it for me and I went off it.  Neurontin never did anyting for my sz's and neither did Lyrica although with that particular med I was really on it too brief a time to judge it's effect on my sz's.

I know that many people with MS take Neurontin for pain and are quite happy with it for pain control.

I have lost 70 lbs so whenever I see weight gain as a side effect I am concerned.

 hi yes i have been on lyrica for 2months and i have put on 8 1bs  and they havent made  no difference iam taking them for nerve damage in my mouth

Yes, I was on Lyrica for pain and I did gain weight. I had to be taken off because of some severe side effects and the weight came off in a few months.

My husband was on Neurontin for spine and foot pain + neuropathy.  It didn't do a lick of good.  Since then, he's been switched to Lyrica...but normally underweight, he has gained 25 pounds!  He eats sensibly, but I think Lyrica works like Elavil.  It slows down your metabolism, on top of which, some people get ravenous.  But if it's the only thing that works for your pain, the options are limited...

  I have complex partial seizures and Grand Mal seizures and I was on Tegretol and tried
  the Lyrica and it has made my seizures lighter and spread them out so I don't have multiple
  seizures a day,only a few and it also seems to be controlling my migraines which is a big
  plus for me since I was having several every month. I gained about 5 lbs but it came back off.

p.S. There are alot of meds out there not just Lyrica and Neurontin!Ask your DR.

I've been on Lyrica for a while. Like most meds there's been no side effects; on the other hand there's been no positive effects either. I have been spreading outwards around the waist lately, but that could easily be due to approaching middle age at a horrifying speed.
