I am dressed and shaking -- ready to visit my surgical onc. and get my mammogram. Appointment is this am and I have tried not to think about this.

Yes, I did get it!!! "Normal" -- Hooray. Did a little retail therapy today in celebration.

That's wonderful.  I had my mammo about a month ago and it was normal, too.  It's a great relief.

you are so lucky --- i had mine done about a month ago and it came back with calcium deposits so i have to have a biopsy -- surgeon and doctor say that if it is cancerous,  all they would do is a small surgery and remove that small calcium deposit.  yikes, i am 66 and have never had a bad report before. Is anyone familiar with this.

Grace, have you ever had breast cancer before? If so, get another opinion after biopsy. If not, get another opinion after biopsy. This sounds really strange.  Please, please let us hear from you. These women here are quite wonderful and have helped me and others like you and me.

:-)  thanks for your kind words judy.  No, I have never had cancer and no parent with cancer either.  Did have a younger sister die at 56 of lung cancer.  This calcification problem could be nothing they say or the beginning of something but so very early.  The worst part is trying to get appointments to get this over with. Been three weeks since I got the call and then went to surgeon who told me to get biopsy - now waiting to get to that appoint -- gosh.

Okay, now I have the picture. It is time for you to be more "assertive". Call them back and tell them you want a biopsy NOW, or as soon as possible. You have waited long enough and you do not need to stress any more. All of us who have been through this know that eventually you have to become proactive and ask (demand) help. Call tomorrow and tell them that you need an appointment now -- anything more than 8-10 working days is too long.

Again most of these types of problems are negative, but you need to know the answer NOW.

gosh judy, it feels sooo good to know someone understands this - my hubby (God love him lol) feels bad for me but doesn't really know what i am really going through.  men are men are men lo  You know how it is, you get one call from your physician's nurse to go see a surgeon for possible biopsy which you are not even familiar with then you wait ten to twelve days to get there --- then they say don't worry too much but are sending me to another doctor (who i don't know where or who, etc. just close by) and say they will call me and now it is another three days and i just think and think and think back and forth, good and bad thoughts. I want this over - i can handle the results as long as it is over. My question to you is this, what doctor do i call and bother now, the last one who checked me, the surgeon who said this other doctor place will call me???? man, between pickin gup xrays from all over the place, etc. to waiting, this is the pits.  my stomach has been sick all week and i don[t sleep good as it already was, have med for that but wasn't using as much before - back to it full time - i feel like a big baby and wish i were stronger but came from a genetic worrisome family --- oh well    - i am trying my best to remain calm and continue on with my usually good life.  thanks for writing me - also, do they do a biopsy  needle type and then surgery if needed same day, i just don[t know what to expect, etc. etc.

Wow, I have been where you are. Call the doctor who said he was going to send you to a surgeon for a biopsy, talk to his nurse strongly, tell her what has happened and ask for her or for the doctor to get in touch with a surgeon NOW, that this has gone on long enough. Don't say any bad words, but let her know how stressed you feel. I wonder how they would feel if this delay had been forced on them.
 
I started crying when I had to do this and I told the nurse that no one cared about me. Of course, it had been 3 weeks since biopsy results and an additional 3 weeks since I had the first suspecious mammo, and they were trying to schedule me for a mastectomy in 6 more weeks!! After my conversation, they got started and my surgery was 4 days later. (Of course, this was at Christmas -- never get sick at Christmas)

juju  thank you - i did call my surgeon and talked with the nurse there receptionist -- i told her how miserable it was to be waiting and she said she has been in my shoes and knows the feeling -- but, the big but was that the doctor who i am going to be seeing is one of the best around and he is worth waiting for - sometimes up to two weeks - gosh -- but, she said that if it makes me feel better, i could call there and speack with the receptionist and ask her what can be done.  I feel better having talked with this woman who has experienced this --- she explained biopsy to me and how long it takes for results, etc. etc. and what to expect if it is cancer. Juju, you mentioned you had a mastectomy - is everything ok with you now, how are you doing, etc. etc.  gosh, i never realized before just how many women are really in this position these days and the emotions and feelings involved.  I would love to hear your story.  AmazingGraceIM@aol.com

Grace, call the surgeon and see what they can do. There is nothing to loose and ask for a cancellation if possible and be ready to go on a moment's notice.
 
I was 58 years old, in excellent health, and had a mastectomy Dec 21, 2004. Tumor was 2 cm at its largest width, but I had 5 of 16 positive lymph nodes. Underwent 4 Adriamycin/Cytoxan chemo, 12 weekly Taxol and 36 Radiation treatments. I was probably the healthiest cancer patient they had ever seen. Only a little nausea, no aches, some fatigue at the end of the last 2 Taxol treatments, about 3 days of vomiting on Arimidex, and that is it. I feel good -- just got my first haircut since January. I have a sister with BC diagnosed 6 1/2 years ago, doing well, however, my aunt died of breast cancer.
 
We're here for you and just remember, you have not been diagnosed yet. 80% of all biopsies are negative and the hardest part of all is WAITING!!!!!
