I've been MIA on the board with good reason...I've been in the hospital!! The nausea and vomiting that I was having just did not go away and kept getting worse, so last Saturday my doc admitted me to the hospital. They did a bunch of tests and put me on higher doses of decadron and discovered the worst possible cause... brain mets. There was only one visible spot, and I have had no other symptoms like headaches or blurred vision, but my doc still thinks it may be the casue of the nausea. I started whole head radiation yesterday. I feel like Frankensteins's monster. After 14 days of this I will probably have the gamma knife thing too. I'm still a little numb from this and my family is devastated. My Dad met my onc at the hospital Tuesday night and followed him into the hall when he left to make him tell him FOR SURE I was going to be OK. He and the radiation onc both say the treatment is very effective, but I have to wonder, since this thing seems determined to spread everywhere, how realistic is is to expect too much more time.
I came home yesterday feeling very weak and still pretty queasy. Taking all these meds by mouth is a lot harder than just having them put into your IV. I also am so bloated I look six months pregnant from the decadron and the tons of fluid they pumped into me. I am taking lasix for that, Zofran for nausea, Decadron for nausea, and Nexium for acid reflux. Just feeling very overwhelmed.((((Hugs))))
Oh Carla, I have been concerned that we have not heard from you lately. I was hoping that it was because you were just busy. I am so sorry to hear your news. You know that we will all be here for you when you need us with support, prayers, hugs, a kick in the behind for whomever, just say what you need. I wish I could do more. If there is anything you you need that I can help with, please let me know. Hugs MK
Carla, praying the rad/gamma knife takes care of this! On the plus side, it's one spot & that's a lot easier to tx. Give your dad a hug for us all. >>>L&H..Connie..14 >>>
{{{{{{{{{CARLA}}}}}}}} I am so very sorry to hear this news. I am just so tired of so much bad news! Please know that I am praying for you and that the gamma knife does the trick! Geez I hate this dam^ed disease!!! Love and hugs, Gail
It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth -- and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up, we will then begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had. Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Carla, I'm sorry to hear this news. I pray the rads and gamma knife takes care of this. Continuing prayers for strength, healing and hope. Love and Hugs, Libby
Friends are God's way of taking really good care of us.
Carla, I am so sorry to hear this. I am so glad you have your dad in your corner. If our Connie says one spot is hopeful you know she knows. I will be doing some prayers and thoughts for you. Special gentle squeeze from me and give your dad a great big hug from me. He is special too. L&H Joyce
People are like tea bags, you have to put them in hot water to see how strong they are!
Carla, I too am sorry to hear of this setback. The others have seemed to fare well with the same treatment you will have, and I hope the same for you. Sending giant cyber hugs...and please tell your DH that you will need a little more rest during rads...
Oh how I wish I could override the edit here and write the words that I REALLY WANT TO WRITE!
I think you know what words!
THIS SUCKS! This is totally unfair! And I am Dam mad!
Carla I feel so bad for you!!!!!!
How is this possible??? I JUST DON'T GET IT!
YOU HAVE ENOUGH METS YOU DON'T NEED ANYMORE!
Stop being so strong Carla! I mean it. If God only gives us what we can handle then stop handling things and maybe you will catch a break.
My heart is upset but in my head I know that this Tx is doable and can kick the cancer until it is gone- but my heart keeps saying but this is Carla- she has had ENOUGH.
I KNOW you can do this- I just wish to GOD you didn't have to.
I am SO SORRY and I am praying really hard for you and I am going to kick something as soon as I log off here.
I'm so sorry to hear this. I hate this freakin disease. Your poor dad must be devastated. I'm sending prayers and gentle hugs your way. Hang in there, Sweetie. There's always hope. And prayers do work.
I am just so saddened and frustrated that you have gotten even more bad news, Carla. You really have been through enough. Sending prayers and positive thoughts that the new treatments will kick the mets. Try to remain optimistic. Hugs, Lauri

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
I am so sorry to hear this news. You have enough to deal with already. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.
Sending mega prayers and hugs your way. Hang in there sweetie. Good luck with the rads/gamma knife procedures. It will be ok. We are with you through it all.
Bless your dad for his caring concern for you too.
((((CARLA)))) I am so sorry. I know exactly how you are feeling. I went through that last winter. It seems so scary. The WBR will really make you tired. I was on the couch after each session for the whole day. So if you can, get the latest appointment you can do. And by the end it really didn't matter when I got it b/c it just wears you out. Be prepared if you have any hair ( I don't know if you do, so excuse me if you don't ) to lose it. If you have any question please feel free to ask me. I am still being wathced carefully and getting MRI's like very 3 months....ugh....I hate them. But I will tell you it's not as bad as it seems......I cried the whole time they did the brain scan b/c I knew they were there and then I cried that whole evening. It SUCKS to hear that. It's so scary b/c the brain is such an unknown and you never know what can happen. But I am ok with it now. So far things are stable and I never had seizures or anything. Just my reaction time was off and my body wouldn't do what my mind wanted it to do. If I needed to get up my mind would try and try to make me get up, but my body just didn't want too. It's odd that they found it and you had no symptoms! But it's good b/c they found it early! Don't worry yourself into more sickness. WBR is VERY effective and so is Gamma knife or Novalis, if that is in your area.
Goodluck and understanding hugs from somone who knows all about it.
I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. But I do agree with Jessiecat: let God handle SOME of it, anyway. It's hard to do, especiallly with a person as strong as you obviously are. And you ARE strong, because you're beating back a monster, one punch at a time. Hang in there.
