muscle relaxants??

i was prescribed amiltryptline for my headaches, but after much research i have decided against that advice, i think there are too many bad side effects, so i called my doctor and he said we could try a muscle relaxant like floricet, have any of you used one of these types of drugs, and what did you think?? also how about the amitryptline?? any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks case

I'm no expert, but I do use fiorocet with some good results, however I fear I have gotten into rebound as I wake each day with a headache. I am slowingly try to wean down from taking them daily and havent taken one in several days and am hanging in there. (not too happily tho!!)

about 3x a month the fiorocet is not enough and I take imitrex 100mg tabs. However they give me chest pains. My doctor says my heart is fine but i dont like the feeling. So I am going to a neurologist next Tues (been treated by GP) so i will see what they have to say.

I dont want to take imitrex, but i have tried other triptans and imitrex is the only one that works at all, although it does not completely eliminate the headache.

Back to fiorocet,  I think fiorocet is good if you can use it sparingly (it has caffeine plus a sedative which help the headache and you feel pretty normal, the caffeine sort of eliminates the sedative affect).

Migraines run in my family, i also have sinus problems and am perimenopausal and have my worse headaches around period time.

Thanks for listening, and hope this helps.

Hey, i have chronic daily headaches and take amitriptyline which has helped better than most other medications that ive tried. I also take a muscle relaxant called norflex (orphenadrine) at night and in the morning which is a bit effective but not that much
Fioricet has been the only pill that has effectively stopped my chronic daily tension-type headaches once they start, but it's not a preventative. It has a very high potential of causing rebound headaches.

Amitriptyline is a preventative, the most helpful I've found in 17 years of daily headaches. It has helped reduce the severity and the frequency of severe headaches, but not the constancy.

I'm now starting on Topamax -- just finishing my first week and no serious side effects yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!
