My unborn baby most likely has bowel obstruction

Hello All,
 
I have a 4 yr old daughter w/cf and am expecting my fourth baby (surprise) in late January. My older two children do not have cf. My scary situation now is that 2 out of 3 ultrasounds have shown what appears to be twisted or blocked bowels with this baby. This never showed up with my 4 yr old  daughter w/cf. We didn't know until she was 2 yrs old that we even carried the cf gene, that's when she was diagnosed. My question is to anyone who has known or maybe even not known before birth about bowels obstructions, what can my husband and I expect after the birth of our newest daughter? My prayers up until this point were that this baby would be healthy, now I just pray and ask Almighty God to just let her survive so we can be proud of her and raise her with our other children. I'm scared, very scared. I need lots of support. Anyone have any words or stories of encouragement?

Welcome to HW, CF room.  First of all, congratulations on the upcoming arrival of a new baby, thats so exciting!. 

I'm sorry to hear of the ultrasounds not being of good news so far.  I cannot even begin to know what this is like for you and family to know this in advance.  I can give a prayer that things will be alright once the baby is born.  Medical mirracles do happen and lets stay optimistic that everything will be fine.  There is the finest doctors available that know just what to do upon the arrival of a newborn with issues.

Thanks Kathy. I will update this board as soon as I get updates. It' s extremely hard and with the pregnancy hormones flying I can have some pretty horrible melt downs and then feel really embarrased for actin gin such a way.

You are right about the miracles our 4 yr old is just that. God gave her back to us in front of my eyes. It was awesome.

Please don't ever feel embarrassed here.  We all have issues that are just a part of our life and there is nothing we can do but work to the best of our ability with the cards we have been dealt. Now wouldn't that be nice if we only had positive, upbeat, awsome, never sorrowful cards dealt to us!.  yeah

Hi Teri,

Thank you SO MUCH for this web page. The sonogram pics that I have of our baby and the ones I saw on the website are very different as far as severity. My baby doesn't have large "soap bubbles" as they called them, but a few small ones. I know this isn't the same as having her here to x ray or looking inside her belly to really see the "big picture" but it sure has made me feel better.

I am really trying to keep up the positive outlook. I know without a doubt that this baby girl is going to receive the very best care known to man.

November 1st is when I am going to LSU hospital to have a 4th sonogram and possibly an amnioscentesis, YUCK! But it is better to know now what to do than not be prepared at all.

God will provide.

Marla,

It is almost November 1st, and I won't be able to post until after then to wish you luck.  I, too, will be with my 4 month old son (with CF) getting some GI tests to check his bowel function on that day (his problems are differnt from Autumn's). Lets hope both of our babys have good "plumbing"!  We are thinking of you and you will be in our prayers.
