Myocardial Resectioning

This is my first post.  My husband had a massive heart attack in late 2003 not knowing it was even a heart attack. He then had congestive heart failure and survived. He had bypass surgery and a myocardial resectioning and has been maintaining ever since.  Is there anybody else out there that has experienced anything similar?  Thanks.

It sounds like your husband has been through a lot!  Some of us here have also had a heart attack, along with Heart Failure and bypass surgery including myself.

When you say he survived the Heart Failure, I assume that you meant that he had it and has been treated successfully with the med.'s that he's taking and that's usually called being "well compensated"?  Usually, there is no cure for Heart Failure, but when the treatments are working, it sure helps a person to feel a heck of a lot better! tongue

I'm not familiar with a myocardial resectioning, perhaps you could explain what that is?

Thanks Teri for the fast reply.  It has been a long, rocky road.  Resectioning was done to stop the "flapping" of the dead section.  It is cutting some of the dead heart "remodeling" - the heart is smaller, but does not have to work so hard and was necessary at the time.  It is not a very common procedure and very few thoracic surgeons would consider the surgery.  I really would like to find others that had a similar surgery.

It doesn't sound like anything that I personally have ever heard of...perhaps others that have had it done, will see this post and come along and share their stories with you and the rest of us!

With time medical science has sure come up with a lot of new things to help us!!~this was certainly a new one for me.  Thank you so much for sharing this with us, as it gives many of us more hope!

Hi!  I did do some more checking today, and found a good article on Myocardial resection, which I also found was called endocardial resection according to one of the sites.
 
Basically they said as you've already mentioned, that it's a surgery where they remove a portion of the heart muscle.
 
It's done to help prevent life-threatening heart rhythms.

Thanks for all the replies.  We did a lot of research prior to the procedure, as it is was a rather invasive surgery.  I am most interested in sharing with others that had a similar surgery and their progress.  Amazing how heart disease changes the whole outlook on life, isn't it?  Hope everyone has a great week.
