I lost my big toenail a little over a month ago and it looks like the other big toe may come off too. My 2 pinky toenails have fallen off also. Anyone else have this happen since or during chemo. It seems like my fingernails are a little more brittle too. I am 4 months out of chemo now. When will all this crap ever pass? My hair is not even a half inch long. Iam so sorry to hear that you are loosing your nails. I thought that my big toenail was coming off but it is still there. I had read that this is one of the side effcts of chemo but I didn't think it would happen after chemo.
What is up with your hair?? Why is it taking so long to grow back. I hate to say it but mine got to be about 1 1/2 inches and has totally stopped growing. I think it has been the same length for a couple months now.
How are you doing otherwise? do you have any aches and joint pains like I do?

Hi, Katt and Bern. I did not have a nail problem, but I continue to lose and regain brows and lashes. I just noticed yesterday that for the first time, I am having hair loss. I do not know if this is because I chose to go a wild and crazy "bleach blonde short, short do" back in January. As far as for growth, I don't really know how much has grown out since I have had it cut 4 times since November. I would say it is about 2 inches, especially around the neckline -- don't want those dark roots to show too quickly!! Katt, try getting a regular "trim" to see if that will encourage growth of your hair. By the way mine is just as thick as before, and I am hoping that this trim I got yesterday got the last of the curl.
For your nails, surely someone here has probably experienced this and will reply soon. If not, try calling the onc nurse. I'm sure she hears everything, too.

Yup, I had that happen. It was very very painful. I lost my big toenail and the other one came off the bed. The bed healed underneath and the nail was forever half off. I had to tell manicurists that I was on chemo and I suggest you do too. Go to a real professional who can speak and understand english really well. Watch that the beds don't heal!!!!! Then there's nothing for the nail to stick on to because it's to smooth.
Two years later, it's better. The nails seem to have gotten better. They still don't feel totally hardy, though. I really hated that part. Brittle nails are really annoying.
There's this oil. Tee tree oil I think it's called. It helped some. try it.
So glad to help out. So many unfortunate tram flaps lately being posted about, I was getting to feel that I didn't have much help to give!!!!!

My Onc had told me about the tea tree oil but I didn't think I would need it. As for my hair, I don't know why it's taking so long. It could be because I wear a wig to work, then when I come home I have this cotton like cap I wear which is loose fitting. My hair may not be getting enough air??? I don't know.
