"It is not easy to live life sometimes and face the world with a smile when you're crying inside. It takes a lot of courage to reach down inside yourself, hold on to that strength that's still there, and know that tomorrow is a new day with new possibilities. But if you can hold on long enough to see this through, you'll come out a new person - stonger, with more understanding and with new pride in yourself from knowing you made it" Kathy Obara

Thank you Laura for responding to my post. I am trying to get a hold of a psychiatrist for my daughter, but with no success. I cannot even get someone to call me back, unfortunately. She is in great need of medical attention at this point. It is almost like she is two different people at times. She is the most loving, compassionate caring little girl most of the time, but then out of the blue she will make a comment like above.
This all just started about 2 months ago when she was having a hard time talking about sex with me and some of the thoughts she was constantly having. Then it turned into her confessing all of the bad things she has done in the past and bad thoughts she is still having.
Fortunately she is very open with me which is a GREAT thing...but I am still very worried for her. She has been very depressed and withdrawn, she is slowly but surely losing all of her friends and she is becoming more and more disrespectful to my husband and I. I am really at my wits end and am hoping for whatever help I can get.
Thank you again for responding and listening.
Hi Ali, Interesting story, I can definately relate. I have had some experience in this area and know the signs to look for because this runs in my family (mothers side).
I feel sorry for what you and your family (and daughter) are going through. I, as a parent myself,(father) went through the same thing and it's very trying on the nerves and very frustrating as you are constantly trying to get the proper help for her.
This is a condition that is triggered by season change (amount of sunlight) usually shows up around Easter weekend and mid-October.
Some of the signs that you should watch for that is out of the "norm" are unusuall behaviour such as: depression.....suicidal thoughts........aggression, lack of respect, anger (towards the parents)and/or violence......rapid mood swings..........always talking religion(saw the Lord).........rapid cycling (always talking about things that arn't making any sense(won't shut up)).........Dual personality.......kind hearted (more than usuall).........urge to want to spend money on thigs she doesn't need or urge to spend other people's money.......poor sleeping habits.....poor eating habits......these are some of the signs to look for.
If she is showing more than one of these symptoms than she should be reffered to a Doctor.
I am the father of an 18 yr old son. Lucky for us he was diagnosed at an early age (12).
Very often they tend to get into trouble with the law, people think they are bad kids but in reality it is an undiagnosed medical problem that can be controlled with the proper medication and counselling.
I would say that if she is displaying more than one of these symptoms than it's POSSIBLE that she may be manic.
Good Luck
