I am new to this site. I searched for a site because I have had 4 different Endo doctors and after a lot of blood test, urine test, ultra sound, needle biopsy and other clinic visits, they all have been doing the Wait and See approach with me due to the fact that my case does not fit into a specific category. One thing they all agree on is that for the 5 years I have been suffering with Hyperthyroidism, my PTH hormone levels have gone from 147 to 336 this year during the lockdown.
My very last endo doctor said it might be a good idea to have surgery as there is no other way to treat hyperthyroidism and that there are no medicines or alternative treatments when you have thyroid disease. I am really puzzled.

That is not true, there are medications to treat hypeRthyroidism and they are called antithyroid medications, they might have side effects but many doctors prescribe them, there is also the RAI (radio active iodine) option which makes you hypO for the rest of your life and will need to take Levothyroxine medication to treat the resulting hypo, As far As I know surgery is the last option and it is used when you have tumor or nodules on your thyroid that are getting bigger with the treatment with levo, also if there is the possibility to keep part of your gland the surgeon will keep it so that you will not be dependent totally on Levo.

PTH - as in parathyroid?
That is different than thyroid. And there is surgery for parathyroid.

Bulls eye rash, migraines, low temp, red eyes, mycoplasma pneumonia, diverticulosis, GERD, exhaustion, weakness, sore ligaments, late-stage EBV, 2012, IGenX Lyme positive, ehrlichiosis positive, 2020. MTHFR C677T. Irregular heartbeat. Upcoming surgery for high calcium and high parathyroid hormone. Husband has Lyme, Bartonellosis, and Babesia.

Hello all. Have not been on the site lately. This pandemic keeps my entire family crazy with all its ups and downs.
Anyway had not been to a doctor for my parathyroid issues since the pandemic started but went yesterday and doctor did a complete bloodwork panel. She said the PTH levels were 411 and the TSH was 256.
Not sure what is going to happen now, but can you guys tell me anything about outpatient surgery for parathyroid?
