Hi Sallyh6,

My therapist had me get this book and another called The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook by Edmund Bourne because I could not afford to see her anymore. That was almost three months ago and I am doing much better now than I ever was doing in therapy. My therapist was not licensed in cbt but said some of her colleagues who are, were having good success with it and since I could not keep coming she thought it would be good to explore further because of its structured exercises. So far so good and the best part is the two books cost about a third of what I was paying a week for my sessions with her!
Welcome Bigbear!!

Glad you decided to post! Thanks for the good tip . . I'll bet Amazon sells lots of those books tonight!! I hope you'll be posting regularly!!

Blessings!

Thanks for the nice welcome. I have been lurking and reading the boards for about a week and like what I have seen :) I'm not a big poster on any of the boards I visit but I do chime in whenever I feel I have something of value to share. I hope you are having a great day!

I read Been There, Done That?  Do This! earlier this year.  it is defintiely worth the read.  I even wrote a note thanking the author and he wrote me back!  very nice guy, and good writer.  He has a thing taken from CBT called TEA forms.  They are easy to utilize and is a way of getting a grasp on things that are bothering or controlling us in life.  I recommend the book!  I hope Sally found healing from it as well!

Thanks rolltide. The Tea form exercise is the one that has helped me the most and I do them all the time now. I am still progressing slowly but surely and hope you are as well.
Hey sally, just wondering how you are doing and wondering if you gave either of the books that helped me a try. I am doing better all the time and still doing the tea form exercise nearly everyday and the new way of thinking and reacting is becoming ingrained in me now. I found another great book called Learned Optimism that's good too but my favorite is still the one by Sam Obitz, because it was short and easy to relate to and taught me the tea exercise. Let me know how you are doing if you get a chance.
I have read and loved the Obitz book but havent read Learned Optimism.  I like the title, it sounds interesting.
CBT is great and if you have not looked into it I would suggest that you give it a try. Much different than traditional therapy but if you do the homework it does work. The book by Obitz is really good and cool because he suffered panic and depression before learning how to use CBT. I also like the CBT books by David Burns and Claire Weekes.
I agree that cbt is the best approch to getting relief and feeling better.
It's good to see other CBT fans like me :-) I have not read the Optimism book either, do you know if it is a CBT book? Take care.
Since no one answered if the Optimism book is a CBT book does anyone know the author's name so I can look into it myself? Thx.
